On tuesday i was at my firends house and was leaveing, i backed out on the road and started to go up the hill towards the main road.....it was snowing, enough to make the roads wet and slick....and you guys know how bad our tires are....well i started to slip and spin so i shifted into seccond and heard a two grinds, the first one longer.....AND thats it....the car stalled and i couldnt place the shifter back into the first gear or seccond!.....what happened?!....HELP....do i need to take it back to the dealer.....

i only have like 3,000 miles on it

i can place tehe shifter into 3rd ,4th and 5th and reverse.....

HELP:confused:

kinda sounds like a broken shift fork or something but it should be covered under warranty, just take it to the dealer but if you have any mods remove them before hand. Have them tow it to the dealer so no more damage occurs especially to you clutch, did you have to start in 3rd gear to get home, tell them to check the clutch for excessive wear due to this.

yea i had to drive home starting out in third:mad:

my one friend said something about a "singcer" (spelling)

whats that?^

from the grinding kinda sounds like synchros to me. on my alltrac the synchros for 1st - 4th were all pretty bad, but espeically in 1st and 2nd. grinded everytime untill i eventually couldnt put it in 1st gear anymore. replaced 1st - 4th synchros and problem fixed.

DooD, why did you even drive it ? You shouldve left it wehre it was, and called roadside asst. I had my tranny blow an output seal in the snow, and had it towed. Covered under warranty, with no questions asked. :D

wait, u had the stock tires on it?

(those are summer/hi perf tires only)

if thats the case u NEED winter tires.

unless his synchro all of the sudden wasn't there anymore, it's not the synchros. synchros wear out and eventually fail, they don't usually just break. other parts of the tranny's break with the sudden abuse that was thrown at it. i know trucks run without synchros, and i don't think you need them at all other than to match gear-engine speeds and not grind, but i'm not positive of this if the tranny was designed to have functioning synchros.

jred321 - quick question, ever had problem putting the car your reverse? like it takes 2 times to try or something..

sometimes, not as bad on this car as others i've had. reverse has no synchro, so it is more difficult to get it in, especially if everything is not lined up. if you push hard enough, it will go in, but it isn't a good idea. if you just put it in first before going into reverse (using another synchro to line things up) or let it roll a little while applying pressure(i.e. lining up gears and thus not need synchro) it'll go in

but really, the drivetrain isn't my strong point, so i could be wrong on a lot of things, but from what i understand you don't NEED synchros ever, they just help. this is just what i have gotten out of things

MY car is much easier to get into reverse or 1st when starting up the car since i put in redline mt-90.. since then it goes right in gear 1st try.

NO!....i CANT put it in gear with the car off.....(1st and 2nd gear only)
i CAN place in 3,4,5 and R

i had it towed to the dealer yesterday (1-14) ....they gonna look at it today and tell me whats up

ill keep you all posted
