Hi. I am looking to spend around $140.00 or so to improve my cars speed. Mostly just acceleration, no need for top end. I was just talking to a friend who said that the best bet would be to get upgraded ignition module, coil, and good plugs and wires. I need to know what is the best of these. I want to get pretty much the best you can get as far as brands and stuff. I don't want an intake as I may possibly get a turbo next year. Thanks.

Matt

sparkco plug wires and a homemade/cheap 4 gauge grounding kit = $115 or so. spend the rest on kartboy bushings $20.

at least, thats what i would do.

enjoy :)

ebay intake might be your best bet...there is a fool with one post in the for sale section with an ebay intake hes trying to pawn off with some cool name, cant remember what it is...try asking him

Oh, I should have said to explain what they do and what it'll help. I know 140 isn't much. :( I'm going to upgrade later, so I don't want an eBay thing, unless it's really top of the line.

well the ebay sri isnt bad, why would you want to spend 200 on injen when you are gonna get rid of it if you decide on going turbo...45 for ebay intake is better, but thats just me, i had my ebay intake for over a year and it still looked "good" when i got rid of it...

Yeah I agree w/ that, but I don't want to get something that I'm just going to get rid of in less than a year. What's those other things do?

i wouldnt go with the ebay intake. you will just want a better one later.

also you sacrafice low end for mid and high end. this is EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of what he wanted.

go with my suggestion. ;)

after that and with some more money go with lighter flywheel/ clutch, lightweight rims.

No need for super duper plugs, stocks are good.

one guy on here upgrading his ignition system, search around for it... i cant remember on how much it cost.

$140? urrr... i know they are slightly more than that, but if you shop around enough and whinge enough you might be able to find an unorthodox racing underdrive pulley. that would be my best be on acceleration. and that's power throughout the rev range too

later

But underdrive pulleys rob your AC dont they? That might not be as much of an issue for everybody else, but in Alabama in august, its a really big damn deal ;) I'd go with uclaps idea myself, but i just spent all my money on a kartboy. Now in search of a job...

under drive pulleys only rob the ac at idle. at speed (which is the majority of the time driving) you'll have no issues. i live in brisbane, australia where summer is regularly 35 deg c and 80% humidity...

order a 1st grounding kit 75$
kartboy bushing 25$ (guessing)
sparko wires 45$

some affordable mods

Thanks for all the replies!
A couple questions here...

1. What's the advantage in a 1st grounding kit vs. homemade one like that harlem guy posted? Seems a LOT more expensive.

2. What will bushings do and what acceleration/speed things will they do?

3. Haha, what will sparko wires do?

As you can tell, I'm pretty new to any of this. Thanks for patience. :)
