hello, im having problems with the ss afc. mods are garret t28rs turbo upgrade ,custom fmic, relocated maf, hks bov, custom intake with aem filter, protege garage turbo maniflod, corksport straight exhaust, turbosmart mbc set at 9 psi, ngk iridium plugs and ss afc. once i changed my plugs out the car would run like crap sputtering and wouldnt idle. unhooked the ss afc and its fine. i have a cel on which is because of the corksport exhaust and the o2 sensor has been unpluged for a long time because of the exhaust. any help would be great. im gonna try to tune the ss afc but its strange that it would work fine untill i installed new plugs. it did idle low and rev a lil up and down on the start up but then it was fine. im stumped.

make sure you gapped the plugs properly. gap should be between .028-.033 .. not .044, thats for a regualr N/A protege. wrongly gapped plugs will give you sputtering and idle issues. then from there i would look into vac leaks EVERYWHERE. lastly then check your ssafc connections and map.

Plugs are gapped correctly they are the iridiums that dont need to be gapped, vac pressure is reading -22 and I soldered the connections for the ss afc and heat shrink on them. I am really stumped on this one. It's strange how it was working fine until I put new plugs in. Then disconnected the ss afc and car starts and idles fine.

recheck them. so many people have that misconception. always check the gap, even if it comes pregapped. until now i have not run into a single set of correctly gapped plugs for my MSP. ive swapped mine out at least 5 times since ive owned my msp and a buddys 3 times already.

its the smallest things sometimes that cause the biggest headaches.

I will try that but u can't gap the plugs on the iridium plugs because it has a little circle point on the end and if you gap them it may break the round part on the diode correct? All my buddy's say don't gap them.

they are most likely gapped at .044, just be gentle when you check the gap.. I do it all the time every car ive owned

Gapped the plugs, hooked the split second back up and still running like straight crap. I think I need to install a different map. I'm using the pre set map right now

I've tried to download the super map and fmic map with no success. What's the trick in doing this? And what map would you suggest? Thanks

Try NGK ZFR6F plugs and gap them to .030". Start with the super stock map. Is the AFC setup properly? Did you change the settings to vacuum/over pressure and 4 cyl./4 stroke? over pressure to around .1psi??
