HELP!:Random CEL

Ok... Heres the deal. This has happened 3 times in the past 6 months. For some reason when the weather changes my check engine light comes on. I will reset the ECU and then the light disapears for a month or so. Then on a hot day or a humind day like today the CEL comes on. I have both intake and exhaust cams installed. I do have a rough idle. I am pretty sure the cams have something to do with the rough idle. The car idles perfectly at 750rpm, but again it is rough. My turbo has been delayed because of custom parts I am waiting on. So for now I have a intake that is not the short ram. I removed the box and the resonator atached a filter to the MAF. So that means the Air Temp Sensor hangs there by a zip tie. I have a feeling that it could be the problem because it is exposed to the elements under the hood. So could it either be the Air Temp, or the cams? When we installed the cams we set the timing belt twice on the cam gears. It might be off just a tooth. Please help!! :D

Thanks in advanced!

Rob

Yes if it senses are large jump in temp it can throw a cel. You pretty much answered your own question. I popped mine out on accident one day and I threw a cel.

Take your car to Autozone or some place that will scan the code for you. They can read the CEL and tell you what it is. But you are probably close already, but never hurts to know for sure and Autozone does it for free! That's how I found out what my issues are and now I'm CEL-less.

Really, I didn't know auto zone did that. You just take your car up there and they will come out and pull the code?? Also, I cleared my ECU last night so the light probablly won't come on for another month...ugggghhhhh

Thanks for the Help:D

No it would not be constant, only temp get abnormal. When it cools off it will go back to normal.

That's true... I think you are right, becuase it's seems to come on when only the temp. changes drastically outside. If the cams were causing the problem, the CEL wouldn't be so random. Right.

Its the temp sensor. Drill a hole in the back of the filter amd put it in there. that is what a lot of MSP owners have done with the K&N or just put your stock airbox back on. Bet you wont throw a cel then. :D

I will give that a try. GOOD IDEA!! Thanks! Since my turbo will be going on in the next couple weeks WHO cares about the filter. :D

I'll let you know what the outcome is.

Ok.... Now this is strange. Driving last night there was this Joe-Joe driving in his Cobra Mustang. Some twisties came up and I was trying to smoke him in the turns, he wasn't trying to play. Anyway I darted off and had some fun. Then I looked down and my CEL turned off. I thought I would drive it around for a little while the CEL was on. So mysteriously it just turned off without me resetting the ECU. It has gotta be the air temp sensor. :D

Another Note: MAN....these P5's can handle!!!! I drifted mine on a side street! (laugh) Things are on rails!!
