2002 Turbo P5
I have a IHI turbo with a integrated wastegate my acuatre is set with a 6lb. spring but want to lower this to a 4lb. I have an automatic and it can't handle the 6. Any idea on how to lower it or where to get the parts?

I'm read in this forum that you can make physical changes to the acutator "rod" and shorten it....

I would see if Hiboost can order you a actuator that is compatible with your IHI turbo and have them order a 4 psi version.

I think what he's trying to say is that the spring will only allow 6 PSI minimum...even if you shorten the actuator rod.

if i remember correctly you have a FM manifold, maybe someone could fab a spacer between the turbo flange and the turbo so you can add an external gate.. it would probally screw up all your IC piping and your turbo might hit something though...

I say talk to the FM guys and see how they do it.

6lbs is the minimum spring?...why can't you order a spring from the turbo mfgr that allows you to set it lower?

My minimum setting is 6lbs. and I want to go lower I thought about cutting the rod and threading it with a spacer so I can adjust it that way down to 4lbs but thats to much work. I got to figure someone makes a 4lbs. acuatre. I just have been all over the web and cannot find anyone that does. Does anyone know a website or someone I can talk to that would be able to get this?

Any physical changes will only cause the exhaust to bleed off early. That will hurt spool time and wont correctly fix your problem.
A new WG will do with a 3-5 spring. Ask someone who can order a gate for you. Talk to nick if you got the kit from him. Also the external wont be a go for you using that manifold. You can space it like paul says but number one not enough room and two the exhaust off the discharge will have to be fabricated to accomidate you.

It's pretty easy. Just put a 1mm spacer(a washer will do it) between the three bolts that hold the actuator to the compressor housing. That will aliviate the pressure and lower the boost.

Try that. It works!

BTW what IHI do you have?

Juan, I have a RHB5 and your washer trick worked like a charm spike at 5lbs. and levels off at 4lbs. now my trans is shifting smooth. Juan can you get a wastegate for this IHI with a lower spring like 4lbs? PM and let me know any info.
