okay...here's the deal: i recently installed a Greddy turbo kit on my 92 miata....got inside on saturday night...started it up (started fine)...turned the corner....and stepped on it (i didn't really let it warm up, except for the cruise to the corner)...went to about 5000rpm and shifted to second....go to the stop sign and the car died!!!

After reading my gagues i have discovered that isn't boosting (no sound from the turbo...no BOV sounding either)....and my air/fuel gauge is goin' postal (from lean to rich, etc.)

other than the car not being able to remain on....(i start it, it starts perfectly fine, bogs down BADLY and then dies) it'll run fine as long as i keep it at 1000rpms or higer at idle

HELP! (RTM)

Sounds like a hose popped off. Check all the connections from the turbo to TB. If you didn't install an intercooler and still using the 'bellows' stock plastic cross over, they can tear and leak too.

If the car is running, the turbo spins and sucks air through the MAF. but if there is a leak between the compressor side, and the TB, the ECU will see a funky signal because it thinks it's getting more air than it is and cause a rich mixture.

-edit- after reading your OP again, I'm willing to bet you have a leak in the bellows. When you start the car, there is no boost. but as soon as you get on the gas, the bellows would start to expand under pressure exposing the leak.

yeah...i'm don't have an intercooler installed so i'm still using the plastic bellows....

thanks for the info...i'll look into it :)

hey miaturbo....you were right...found the problem (had to place a brick on the throttle to find the leak...but it worked)

...basically it was a plastic "pipe" that is busted, but easy fix...

THANKS!! (first)

+1 rep for you ...if it works...

:) Glad to help a fellow Greddy owner.

I went through that stage. I had guy that specialized in miatas work on mine. Mine would die like that. I ended up replacing the coil pack and spark plug wires and had the timing adjusted. I can't remember but something was done to the boost regulator on the turbo and it was like he brought it back to life. Pured like a kitten.
