My wife's 626 is having an issue.
Her car has been smelling like it was running hot for a couple of weeks now. At first I thought was b/c I had put some oil in her car and spilled some on the engine so the usual burn off. However, it has lingered.
About two weeks ago we were running around town and notice a bad pouring out of white smoke from under the hood when we got home. The temperature gauge was normal, popped the hood and let it cool down.
After it had cooled we ran over to autozone and had it run on their code reader to see what it would say. I unfortunately do not remember the exact code but it was for a valve that I would have to go Mazda to get. The guy said it was basically an emissions part and it wasn't that big of a deal.
The same day we ran the car for almost 70 miles and did not have another problem.
Thinking back the only thing I can think of was I was running the air on 4 which she never does.
Fastward a bit. The smell is lingering and what I thought was a hot engine smell now seems more like a hot rubber smell. She got home last night and I popped the hood and a couple of small puffs of white smoke came off the engine and was gone.
I'm not sure what to do. The car seems to run normal, the temperature gauge is not indicating a problem, and there has been no substantial issue since the first run in.
Could this be a problem with the AC? I have not had a chance to run the car with the AC completely off (my wife never turns it off, but never goes above 3).
Any help would be great, we really do not have any money to take it to a shop and the fact the smell is lingering is bothering me and starting to bother her.
Thanks
