i've been lucky (while knocking on wood), but i've had friends who got new motors, had a fuel injector problem, and popped their new engines. Or their ecu/boost got screwed, popped motor. or were tuning, ran lean for 0.00001 seconds, and popped the motor. personaly, i've had an engine that has over 5000 in it to fix the oil leak (main seal) that still isn't fixed, ran like s*** becasue the tire rubbed through the fenderwells and were shorting out the ecu and massive boost creep thanks to a high flow cat. those have now all been remidied (sp?) except for the oil leak. basically, you need to perform maintaince and take care of you car. it's not a supra or corvette than you can just flog. you need to change the oil often, perform maintance on the turbo system, inspect the engine and vaccum (again, sp.) lines often and make sure to correctly tune the car (not to mention perform the safety mods like installing a downpipe, etc.).
this ensure the rotary keeps spinning. people who don't car about their car and just flog it are in for a world of hurt
