HELP! I scratched my dashboard

So I'm the idiot that was buying some 10' Copper pipes from Home Depot and shoved them into the car not realizing that they were going to scratch up the black upper part of the dashboard. I have about a 6-10" long, but not continuous scratch on the black part of the dash, exactly where the passenger front side airbag is. Anyone know how to fix scratches like this? I have seen some DIY kits from Auto Zone and whatnot, but I don't really trust myself in doing the work. Looks like they have a kit that heats up a piece of rubber and remelts the rubber somehow. Anyone know an easier way?

Thanks
Eric

Thermally re-setting the damaged areas, or using an appropriate filler is really the only way to fix a textured surface. If you try to sand it out, you'll only succeed in removing the texture around the scratch and making things much worse.

You might try having it professionally done, if you can find a place. I fear you're going to make a bad situation worse as a novice using heat and epoxides.

yeah there are some professional detailers that do interior repairs/restorations.

where are you located?
