help ...!!!first time oil change after 2500k miles!!

somewrong with the car....i drove to school today and take a look at it after 1hr class, it was fine, when i got home, i also look at it 2hr after home, and this b**** is gettin crazy...???? like that other said, it may be wrong on the dipstick, i am for sure i puted 6 quarts of 5w30 mobile 1 oils..!!!
(lol)
Oh and by the way, the above quote is so freakin' halarious, hahahahhaha (lol)

To ignore the dipstick is dumb. Too much oil will make it foam, causing sludge buildup over time. Never overfill. A bit too little is better than any over.

A 1/4 of a quart too much is not going to make it foam and cause sludge build up. Put 1-2 quarts too much in the car and yes, that will happen. Do you think there is ever exactly the amount of oil in a motor as the owners manual says in ANY car after you change it? How much residual oil is left in the nooks and crannies throughout the engine? Probably 1/8-1/4 quart.

EXACTLY! That's why the dipstick must be correctly used and never ignored. Just because the stated capacity is six quarts doesn't mean that's how much should be blindly poured into the engine. My two Hemis (identical motors and filters) don't take exactly the same amount of oil to make the dipstick exactly on the "full" mark. Not a huge difference, mind you, but noticeable nonetheless. May be the difference between the viscosities (5w-20 in the C and 5w-30 in the Ram).

there's a very simple answer. when you change the oil, do it when the engine is warm, say after a drive. that way the oil will come out nice and quick. replace the filter, put in what the manual says, start the engine and let it run for a few seconds so some of the oil has time to go through the filter. turn the engine off and check the dipstick. for this you have to pull it out, wipe it off, push it back in all the way, and pull it out to check the level.

if you are between low and full, YOU ARE GOOD.

Do you guys recomment 5W-30? I have seen in another thread people talking about 5W-20. I just go to a shop and they do it, but I want to know what type of oil to tell them.

If changing it since I know have over 5000K on it is it ready for synthetic?

5W-20 is for the regular Mazda3. Our manual says to use 5W-30. Is 5W-30 the best viscosity for this car? Not sure. I think something abit thicker when hot would work better. Like a Euro blend 5W-40 or 10W-40. If you're concerned about using what Mazda says to use, go with the 5W-30, just realize that manufacturers are switching to thinner oils these days to reduce emissions and fuel consumption, not necessarily to prolong the life of their motors.

Had my oil and filter changed today. Exactly 5 1/2 quarts to the "max" line.

(braindead

I don't give a flying **** if the owners manual is saying 6 quarts, I just did an oil change today and 6 quarts would have been too much, I changed the filter and drained all the oil and when it came to refill, 5 quarts and 3/4's of the remainder quart of oil was at just below max.

Asshole.

agreed!!!!!
