The solenoid is what pushes the starter gear into the flywheel. It will come on the starter. Replace that beeyotch!!Metal MP5 said:Focus said something about the starter solenoid too ... where is that? i'm assuming i can't get to it unless i take out the transmission if it makes contact with the flywheel?
with what you just told me, now i'm thinking maybe the gear is ****** too ... because it turns once and then stops
i'll try to get the dealer to fix it this week ... i'm sure it'll be easier to get that fixed than the blown lsd hehe

You've got an idea now on the problem....and please stop cranking it because you might be causing more damage. Your gonna need a lift for this job for sure and many professional opinions. Chances are you don't have damage to the flywheel but that's why I'm saying get other mechanics opinions at the shop to check for damage to the teeth of the flywheel.
I'm like you, I like learning as much as possible first, I even took a auto mechanics course way back when but have no balls to do major things myself...mainly because what's theory compared to experience.
I pay people, but I'm always present when anything is done to my car, my hands always end up dirty....to learn and to double check all the work. I go to mechanics who are patient with me....but I also tip well.
