ur gonna have to put the cd in, and reinstall the entire thing.
not to be rude, but i said in the first post, it cant boot windows off the cd either.

hmmm yea something similar happened to me. everytime windows loads it just goes to a blank screen. i can hear everything starting up but nothing loads. at the end i reformatted the computer. if all else fails reformat. unless when you say you cant boot windows from cd you meant reformatting too.

Good luck with it, for those three days i kept telling myself "i hate computers"

how do i reformat a computer that cant load anything at all?

I put in the Windows XP disk.. boot from cd, it loads everything up until it says Loading Windows on the bottom, then it just hangs.

get a ram checker and run that, might have bad ram. try reseating it first, and if your computer is dusty, get a can of compressed air and clean it out. do a search for 'ultimate boot disk', has ram and harddrive diagnostics on there, and a bunch of other stuff.

hmmm. i dont remember exactly how things went and dont plan to but i think you put the disk in then it asks you a bunch of stuff. i dont think i went to boot from disk. sorry i cant help much, ill try for a link that might help.

That link might help. i didnt read it all because my eyes hurt too much. make sure you still have the product key.

*edit* of course you do lose all your saved files on your compy when reformatting. if you find out what is missing you may be able to expand files from the windows cd. thats what a tech told me to do but i wasnt able to expand so i was left with reformatting.

Use this free tool: Darik's Boot and Nuke. Well, you will have to have access to another computer to make a useable disc, but I can personally verify it works well. It'll wipe the drive clean, then you can reinstall Windows.

I suggest you use a disc imaging program such as Acronis TrueImage right after you reformat and reinstall Windows. If anything screws up again, it'll take five minutes or less to restore your computer to a fresh start.

pull the HD, and put it in a friends computer as a secondary drive. If the volume can be mounted - then you can pull the data you need off it first.

For imaging I recommend Norton Ghost. Personally, I just burn the important stuff to optical media or post it on my webspace. If you intend to use optical media as a backup medium, be sure to burn at least 2 copies if not 3. I've had corrupted/crosslinked files be a pain in the ass before.

thanks guys. im downloading that ultimate boot disk. as soon as thats done, gonna run that and see if i can learn anything.
