HELP caliper question w/ pic

hey guys

I need help quick it's getting dark.......I'm currently trying to remove the right rear strut. Mazda's geniuses decided to position the brake assembly to strut mounting bolts in such a way that the brake caliper is in the way. I'm trying to get the caliper out of the way and I found a 10mm bolt under the plastic cap circled in the pic.

My question is is that 10mm bolt all I need to remove to get the brake assembly out of the way?

Or do I remove that first then have to remove the two caliper mounting bolts? Thanks

No, that's just to remove the calipers to get to the pads...There is a 12 or 14mm (can't remember which one) bolt that the caliper bracket is connected to. Remove the top one and loosen the bottom, so you can swing the caliper back and access the 2 bolts that hold the strut.

Hope this helps.

thanks wil

So I DO NOT need to remove that 10mm bolt covered by the plastic at all? Just remove the top and loosen the bottom for those 14mm bolts (they are 14mm i just check outside)?

I hope I got this right though take a look below......

You may want to spray some WD40 on the sway bar link, 2 strut bolts, and 1 center top mount bolt. It's a pain if you don't...Let it soak for a few minutes.

Also if you don't have a spring compressor, the rear should be able to compress with your weight...But don't do this w/o the spring compressor for the front!

And don't forget the locktite!

Man you're awesome wil..........I'm assuming loctite is for the caliper mounting bolts? correct me if I'm wrong because I dont have any loctite right now!!!! Anyways, it'll be tough to fit my torque wrench into there

Loctite is for the strut bolts & caliper bolts. Red loctite is what you want...You'll need a extension bar for those bolts if you're going to torque them.

Get the loctite, you don't want these bolts to fall out! Better safe than sorry

From what I heard red loctite requires blowtorch heat for removal......I assume I would use blue loctite? Can I pick some up from home depot or lowes?

red loctite isn't that hard to remove. But you can use the blue if you want...But do you plan on removing the rear struts that often?

You can get them at autoparts stores.

Don't forget to put the bolts backwards :)
