2008 MazdaSpeed3
I've been on other mazda forums but I'm new to 24/7. Still learning how the turbo charged engines work so hope my stupid questions don't get to annoying. I try to do my research before hand but sometimes dumb questions need to be asked...

I'm putting a FMIC and a PG turbo inlet pipe on my 2008 ms3, and in the future upgrade my exhaust. I'm wondering if I need to upgrade my BPV? I'm not sure if if these upgrades really change the pressure too much.

Also what kind of BPV, 50/50, BOV is best for the ms3? I've tried to do some research and found that BOV aren't too great for them, plus I live in Utah so the elevation isn't good with a BOV either. I have got several suggestions to get a forged BPV, but I also have had people say that a 50/50 is best...

Hopefully all that makes sense, thanks for the help guys.

Do you already have an intake? a TIP wont affect anything with regards to tuning. a fmic will give you more lag and can cause some issues. What are you planning on doing to the exhaust? the catback is pretty good IMO and isnt worth the money to upgrade. if you plan on doing the downpipe or test pipe in combination with your fmic you will definetly need a tune. CP-e standback and Cobb AP are your options for tuning.

As for the BPV, the stock is good for stock levels of boost or slightly higher. I'm running 18psi and mine is holding up fine. Some do leak, so an upgrade is only necessary if yours is leaking. these cars run full recirc so vta and 50/50s are a not recommended. if you really want it the forge bpv is your best bet. holds boost well and is cheap compared to the others.

I do already have a intake, It's the Mazdaspeed one. The exhaust I am planning on putting on a HKS Hi-Output, and then in time upgrading the DP.

Excellent intake choice. Please understand that your proposed exhaust upgrade will not produce a power gain, only a change in sound. The stock CBE is so good that it's flow rate exceeds the maximum output of the exhaust side of the K04 turbocharger on our cars.

Aftermarket CBE's are expensive and yield no measurable gains on MS3's running the stock K04 turbocharger. Change the CBE for a different sound, not for power, unless you are going to install a bigger turbo and an aftermarket tune for the flow of a bigger turbo.

You will get a huge benefit from an aftermarket dp/rp, however. Huge. That is where the restrictions (and they are severe) are located, upstream and not in the CBE.

The stock CBE will flow up to a bit over 300 whp, which is just about the limit of the turbocharger.

Ya, I liked the sound of the HKS CB. But I was unsure of the gains from it. But that is good information to know, Exhaust just went down on the list of things to buy. haha. DP moved up a couple spots though.

As for your BPV/BOV question, you can run a BOV or 50/50 (hybrid), but the ECU is tuned to run a BPV. Until you increase boost pressure, the stock unit should be sufficient.

In some cases, mine included, the stock valve was simply not holding full boost pressure, so I went with the Forge BPV as a "repair" of sorts. According to my Dashhawk, my peak boost jumped from about 13.5 psi to a little over 16 psi simply by swapping that part out.

is there any more power to be had from a TIP in addition to, say, the mazdaspeed cai? considering how cheap that piece is it was the next performance mod on my list. but i was only considering a used one if it were to pop up somewhere around my area

allows the turbo to spool up about 200-500rpm or so earlier in the powerband
