Hi All,

Just thought I best introduce myself, I have sent my first post on the cosmo roll call thread that Antoine started with a few pics of my Cosmo 20b
when I first got it home, it has had a little more work done to it since including a full engine rebuild with a street port job all completed by Pip Gardner at WGT Auto development in Middlewich Cheshire. I am still running it in and in all honesty with the weather the way it is in the UK at the moment this will take a while, I have also had a full custom s/s decatted exhaust fitted.

I managed to get one show in before the engine decided to blow it's apex seal that being Rotorstock at Santa Pod in July, I am changing the stock cloth interior out and replacing it with an interior from a 13b sx (Leather) and swapping them over I have also taken the dealer fitted air dam from the 13b and the rear spoiler to have sprayed and fitted to the 20b, I can't make my mind up with regards the side skirts but I do like the front dam from the kit and gives the cosmo a real aggresive look, bit I do like the smooth lines of the original sides of the car without the skirts ( all down to taste really )

Once the engine is run in (broken in for you guys from accross the pond) it is back to Pip to be set up on the rolling road, I have purchased a blitz spec R boost controller to go on at the same time,,(don't want the expense of a rebuild again for a while )

I would love to get my hands on the piggyback chip (Redom) that used to be available years ago, I have read on Dave's posts (DMRH) that Do Engineering had taken this over but I have been on their web site and they do not list it
any help from anybody would be much appreciated as it would be good to get the car set up with this when it goes back to Pip for Tuning

Look forward to hearing from you all

Frank

Hi,

Thanks for the comment, No I believe it has been painted at some time in its life as the areas where the split colour usually is on the cosmo, such as the mirrors and the windscreen pillars are normally in black are red,,
to be honest I prefer it this way as well, when I get the aero kit fitted this will be painted in red rather than a contrasting colour.

But your right it does look good in red

hey Frank so you have a few cosmo's
I'd like too see your suspension I highly doubt it's still for sale. mazdaspeed seem to discontinue things.
and your sideskirts at nite illuminated.

as for your brake rotors I havent found these myself so decided to go with, the brake kit, which is a real bargain.
altough if your one's look new you should get away with machining. otherwise it may be either a buckled tire, allignment or suspension component.
just get measurements and cross refference with an aftermarket suplier.
I'v only seen rear rotors for sale dixcel. and they dont have front rotors strangely enough.

btw how much choice did you have with gettting it rebuilt in your area?
i beleive your cosmo makes it the 3rd in the uk.

G'day from DMRH

Assuming you have a Welsh background from your location..........CYMRU AM BYTH.

Quote the Japanese VIN of your Cosmo & I'll be happy to pronounce its official birthday for you.

Great to have you joining the team.

I will get some pics for you as soon as I can,, we have about 6 inches of snow here at the moment so the car is safely locked away in the garage, the illuminated kit is on the 13b at the mo but will be coming off that very soon and be re-sprayed and fitted to the 20b

I will get them checked out and see if they are warped I was just getting some info together for the worst case I have to change them

Not to bad I had to go 80 miles away there is a few that specialise in rotaries
but the guy I used has a good reputation and is the closest one to me,, not actually sure how many are in the UK,, Dave at DMRH might know better but I believe it is less than 10, 20b's,, I have seen 2 13b's up for sale recently.

I will be selling the 13b soon, it has only 59,000 kms on it, I actually bought another 20b from Japan but the dealer sent me this instead and is ignoring my e-mails so don't have any dealings with a Company called Solid Trading
as they are not a very professional Company to deal with.

Hi Dave, I have lived in Wales for 16 years but I was born in Manchester,, but I am impressed with you Welsh,, have you relatives over here?

Here they both are,JCESE 102785 and JC3SE 103812, long story with the 13b as I had bought another 20b to sell on but the dealer ripped me off and sent a 13b instead,, I am still trying to resolve it with them but they are ignoring my e-mails,, so might be an expensive lesson

Great to have you joining the team.

Thank's for the welcome it is a pleasure to talk to fellow enthusiasts and people with more knowledge of these under estimated motor cars, I think it is a stunning car and I love it even though it has just cost me more to have the engine rebuilt than it did to buy it import it and pay all the tax duties,, GULP and please don't tell the wife or she will kill me

Regards
Frank

thats tragic but you now have a great car. when driving you'll realise it was all worth it.
how long have you been chasing them??
i looked on their site cheap rx8...
I'v been ripped off by people overseas. you have more too back you up though. so if you contact enforcement agencies/fair trade in your area ect I'm sure something can be done.
perhaps their just on holidays...
did u get mazda seals?
i rebuilt mine almost straight away.

Bad sellers from Japan......something really rare(boom06)The Japanese have been reputed for being reliable traders, nonetheless things happen.
Would reporting it to the Japanese Embrassy help?

Yes I was surprised also,, it was not the only car I had purchased from them which was even more of a surprise,,

Would reporting it to the Japanese Embrassy help?

I had not thought of that line of approach I suppose anything is worth a try, I was hoping that they would resolve it, I even had another dealer who I have bought a car from contact them for me,, he was told the guy I was dealing with had left the Company, they asked him to send the details but as of yet nothing and I have e-mailed them again myself since,,
On their web site the guy I was dealing with is still listed on it STRANGE

I may try your suggestion,, thanks

Hi Dave, intersting on the 20B as the export certificate states 04-03-92
and the 13B is only a day out 04-09-92,, why do you think the 20B would be exactly a year out on the export certificate ?

Thats real Owain Glandwyr country,, all Welsh speaking I gather then?,, we live right in the middle of Wales in a place called Carno ( you can look it up on your map) about an hour drive to Port Merrion and 40 mins longer to Bangor, I love this part of the world just wish we had your climate then it would be perfect I am not greedy 6 months sunshine would be good (spin)

04-MAR-92 was not a production day for the 20B-REW Cosmo. Several 13B-REW versions rolled down the line that day but no 20B-REW versions. The 20B version sold almost equally with the cheaper 13B version until the FD-RX-7 sales ramped up (1992). Then the super pricey 20B version sales dropped away leaving the 13B version as the primary seller.

05-MAR-92 was a 20B-REW version production day. On that day Cosmo JCESE-103193 came down the line.

Since the 20B-REW/13B-REW sales ratio was roughly 45%/55%. Its then logical to assume 20B-REW #3193 & 13B-REW #3210 match up since JC3SE-103210 has a production date of 05-MAR-92.

As to why yours was wrongly marked as a 92-model. Either a typo or that USA "Wank" thing where they add a year. In the USA, a 90-model Cosmo magically becomes a 91-model......(confused)

Dave,

Thanks for the explanation,,
I have had numerous American Cars so I know all about the October / November become the next year model rule..
It is so easy with Yank cars though as they always changed something on the car, trim level or moved lights so you could tell which year just by looking at the car in most cases.

Mind you with the Cosmo you would of thought the 102 would be 92 ,,103 would be 93 etc on the VIN number or is that too easy (boom03)
