Subaru Legacy GT
Hello all, my name is Robert and I'm really starting to like the P5. I see them all around town, and since I need a good used car soon, I'm leaning towards buying a P5 over a Subaru WRX. I currently drive a 1995 Legacy GT, but that has a lot of miles on it (183k and counting), and I've had to put a lot of money into it recently. The reasons I'm leaning towards a P5 is because it's a good price, it's peppy and handles pretty well from what I've heard. The reasons I don't want to buy another Subaru is that it doesn't get the best gas mileage, the AWD system is a pain in the ass to fix, and I'd prefer to stay away from a car that would give me too much reason to mod it. I want a Evo IX, but that will wait until I graduate from my X-Ray Tech program that I'm going to start taking next year at my local CC.

Great site, and I hope to learn a lot!

Thanks,
nub.

Welcome aboard mate! You will love the car but.....just don't expect a powerhouse. Enjoy!

Hehe, I know. I want to learn some basic mods to pep up the car. I'm also sure it will be a little faster than my LGT, which is a automatic. :( I'm just looking forward to getting a MT.

Welcome. I recently acquired a low mileage MP5.

2. Get the VINs [only a certain range fall inside the recall] of the MP5s you are considering, then call your local dealer and ask if the Intake Manifold Shutter Valve Emission Recall 3005C has been done. I just did this yesterday, and the dealer even faxed me over the Warranty Vehicle Inquiry Detail stating its been done.

3. Ask for any other service history you can get your hands on

Short version: the power is down, but the handling is great; a big fun factor car :)

howdie!! the protege 5 is one nice ride..:) ..i don't think they're in the same bracket as a WRX though...

Yay

hello "nub"

The Protege5 is a great little car. Stock for stock it's as fast as a Legacy GT so no surprises there. It has awesome handling from the factory and can be made even better. I was looking at the Legacy GT (1999 specifically) before I decided to go for a Protege5. You make a good point about the AWD system.. it's pretty complicated. Plus I don't know how much I'd trust a used WRX.. who knows how much it was beaten on. It's a lot less likely that you'll deal with that with a P5 because no one bought them to have the fastest car on the block.

You and your car are my ******* idle..... You put alot of hard work into it and remind me of me and my dad rebuilding hot rods in the garage, haha awesome work man

Did you get the P5 yet? IMO a great car, lacks power but looks sexy slow (:) ) and handling is great. Gets decent gas mileage to boot, depending on how you drive it of course. hehe

I just picked up my white p5 today. I had a 2000 green sedan that I traded for a truck, but I'm back to the protege fold now. I'd say go for it. I'm loving mine!

The P5 is a great all around vehicle. It will be missed.

I'm sure Mark will let you have visitation rights :P

Now that mine is all washed up the love is 100% back.. such a fun little car, just wish I had rolled my fenders when I first lowered the car so I wouldn't have this fender rusting issue :P
