Hello all!
My name is Anssi and I come far away from north, Finland. I love the looks of the RX7 and the idea of rotary engine and I would like to get an RX7.

Now I got an once in lifetime opportunity to spend a year in Japan and I would like to import a RX7 from there but my main concern is the price of the car and the parts, mainly the engine parts. I think I've got enough money for FC or maybe a cheap FD, but it would be nice if someone would tell me the price range from the both, FC and FD. Maybe with cheap FD you have to replace almost everything so then I will run out of money (and maybe time too). Maybe if there's some kinda FAQ from both cars, I would like to read them too and if you've got some kinda hints, tips, suggestion etc. they are also appreciated.

Then I don't have a clue how much will the engine parts cost in Japan so it would be nice if someone would tell the about prices from rotors, housings, apex seals, coolant seals etc. I would like to rebuilt the engine in Japan so when I come back Finland I got carefree kilometers ahead and also in Japan there would be more parts available in a cheaper price.

Is here anybody from Japan who could help me with these questions?

Thanks and cheers! (drinks)
-Anssi

The main bit of advice that I have for you is to go to the big city parts of japan to buy. You will be forced to buy either 6 months or a year worth of insurance up front, but cars in the bigger parts of japan lose value quickly. Japan is one of the places where they try to discourage you from owning a vehicle and just using public transportation, so the cost of driving a vehicle daily is ridiculous and people unload their cars for cheap. Sometimes, if you own an economy car, you even have to pay to have someone take your car.

Well I'm not gonna drive the car, I would just fix it and then ship it to Finland. Would it be possible just to take the car off the registration and insurance when I buy the car and after I have fixed it I just throw the car into the conteiner and ship it to Finland? I have no idea about Japanese system but it seems like even more complicated then Finnish one :D

Atleast when I read everything what you need to prove and all the inspections you need to pass I felt sorry for Japanese people :D

They force you to buy the insurance when you buy the car. There is really no way around it. A friend of mine toured there in the marines and bought a car while there. It's still there as far as I know because the registration in america would have been ridiculous.
