Hello 2012+ Mazda5 Owners!

Just bought a 2012 Mazda5 Sport Automatic, pearl white. Pretty basic. Wife has a messed up foot and can't drive a stick currently.

Traded in a 2009 F150 SuperCrew for it. Truck was great but averaging 13mpg was literally throwing money away.

I plan on replacing the stereo (the stock one is horrific! ), speakers, adding a sub (probably under the front seat/s), and maybe finding a way to get speakers into the sliding doors. That would probably help out quite a bit in sound staging and whatnot.
I'm also looking into HID bulbs as it seems the Mazda projectors do really well with them, and since we have 2 kids and a dog, we'll be doing good seat covers, trailer hitch, roof rack as we get the money laying around.

Had 39 miles on it from the dealer. They had a $3000 markup on it, but we got it for under MSRP. They actually had a markup from 2k to 6k on every vehicle on the lot, Mazda/Hyundai dealer in Vallejo.

I think the car is absolutely hideous, but the wife loves it and I'll probably never drive it anyways ;)

$3k markup? That's pretty nuts for a car that isn't in high demand.

And the looks will grow on you. I still like staring at mine :)

Yeah they were pretty desperate to get rid of the ones at our dealership. $2500 off MSRP. They're not flying off the shelves here in Texas!

Just found this site. Bought 2012 Mazda 5 GT 2 weeks back for $22,070 base price + 2,000 for taxes and dmv registration. It had 13 miles on it when I bought.
Additions - wheel locks & 3rd key programmed ( I can't believe that extra key costs $232). Both additions are included in above price.

Still debating on two things:
Mazda Total Advantage Plan - 6yr/75K for $1270
Extended Warranty bumper to bumper - 8yr/100K for $1240 - $50 deductible for each break-down.

Any suggestions/tips on these 2?

Definitely go bumper to bumper, Mazda do not offer direct factory extended warranty as I was told by Mazda.

Thanks. Bumper to Bumper extended warranty is offered by 3rd party and they cover all mechanical and electrical (comprehensive). I signed up for it. I am still not decided on Mazda Total Advantage Plan. By the way, I got DVD player installed for $900. With this total paid (including taxes+title registration) $24,985. Extended warranty covers this DVD player too.

Drove to LA yesterday and the ride was excellent. Averaged 31 miles per gallon on this trip. I now have 700 miles on my mazda 5 and no complaints so far.

Any experience or suggestions on Mazda Total Advantage Plan?

I originally purchased the extended warranty through the dealership then backed out. I will be thinking of getting a third party extended warranty probably a year before factory warranty runs out. But I normally get rid of my car around after 5 years or around 60K miles, this is due to depreciation/residual equity left on the car. It has sort of worked for me in the past.

As with VW's that I've owned previously, I am not expecting stellar resale value of my 5 when I do plan on trading it in the future. I think the term "Mazda Advantage" is just a marketing ploy, call Mazda direct and ask them who underwrites the policy, I would think that it's offered through a third party.
Any experience or suggestions on Mazda Total Advantage Plan?

Two new 2012 Mazda5's in our family! My in-laws picked up their white GS last month, and I finally pulled the trigger and ordered mine on the weekend, a Clearwater Blue 6-speed GS with convenience package. Dealer is just confirming they can get the car for me (it was enroute to a dealer in Quebec, but they requested it be transferred).
I would have preferred the GT, but couldn't really justify the extra cost, and I don't think they have the car available anyway (seems that 6-speed Mazda5's are just about all gone). I think I'll have to do something about the foglights, don't like the idea of a black circle where a light should be.

We just picked up a new/used (Mazda demo) 2012 Mazda 5 Sport with 2200 miles on it. The dealership had 2 with the six speed manual out of 8 within a 250 mile radius. The one we picked had the other features we wanted - light exterior, dark interior, foglights, 6MT & Homelink rearview mirror. They gave us a reasonable deal on it and separately gave us what we wanted for our trade-in, a 2000 VW Beetle TDI. We're very happy with it... love that you can get a proper transmission in a family hauler that doesn't take up a city block or cost $45k.

Car & Driver has a well-balanced review on it, which frankly I could not agree with more.

We picked up a new 2012 Mazda 5 GS with the convenience package about 2 weeks ago. My wife wanted the copper red, but there were none around and we would have had to wait a few weeks so we went with the aluminium metallic instead, which was fine with me. I would have been fine with anything other than black or white (too hard to keep clean). We picked it up with 19km on it, and it currently has somewhere around 1800km on it.

My first car about 10 years ago was an 89 Honda CRX, then with the first child on the way I sold the CRX and bought a 95 Civic coupe, then with the second child on the way we sold that Civic and upgraded to an 05 Civic sedan, and there are no more kids on the way right now, but my wife babysits 2 kids, and it just didn't work out fitting everybody into the Civic (2 carseats in the back of the Civic took up the whole back), so we traded it in for the Mazda 5. We're loving it so far. We opted for the 5 speed automatic, mainly because my wife can't drive a manual, and with her being the primary driver, and usually having a carload of kids, she didn't want to have to worry about the distraction of remembering to shift lol.

I find that it has quite a bit more power and torque than the Civic did, and even though it weighs more and is a slightly bigger car it still has more than enough "go" for me, and in my opinion it handles much better than the Civic did. I'd like to pick up a roof rack and fog lights for it eventually, but for now we're just enjoying being able to fit more than 4 people in the car at a time.

We've already taken it on our first "vacation", and it worked wonderfully. With 3 adults, 2 kids, and all of our stuff crammed in there it still had more than enough power on the highway to keep me satisfied. There is no way that it would be a practical vehicle for a family that always has 5 or 6 people in the car though. There just isn't enough storage space in the "trunk" with all of the seats in use, but in our case the 3rd row is rarely used so it's perfect.

Cool! Welcome to the site, same 5 as mine, except mine's a GT. Great car nevertheless. I see more and more 5's on the road now, mostly the current model. I do see the 1st and 2nd generation from time to time. We have two Mazdas; I was a staunch VW fan for many years and finally made the switch to Mazda last year and never looked back. May be in for another Mazda in a few years, thinking about the CX5 AWD. But we'll see how these do first. Welcome to the Forum, lots of fine folks here!

We have the GT as well...Funny how I never noticed many 5's on the road, then you own one, and they're now "all over the place". Can't get the GT with a stick, for some reason (although how many do they really sell with 3 pedals)?

Wanted the 3 hatch a few years ago, but they were new at the time (2010MY back in mid-2009), and dealers weren't budging. Got a Scion xD, which I like because it's a small hatchback, but when I receive a Mazda 3 as a rental car, I kick myself somewhat for not getting that 3 after all. Oh well, there's always next time.

Thanks for the welcome.

Bought a '12 Touring w/ moonroof/changer package in April for $20,250 + TTL. Clear water blue with black interior. Have 4300 miles on it now. No issues till date. Love the bluetooth music streaming, climate control and the red electronics display.
Hopefully, the troublefree ownership experience continues!
Thanks.

Hello ,
I have purchased a MZ5 on June 16 2012 in Ottawa,Ontario.
2012 Mazda5 GT , AUTO
Luxury pkg ( Sunroof+leather)
Aluminum Metallic
OEM Roof rack, cargo net, rear bumper protector,
Aftermarket : Tint windows , 35% front, 20% side and a Chrome tail pipe

Right now the odometer is showing around 1400km, no issue so far(friday) a lot better than my previous 2008 Nissan...

What I Like = great looking and easy/fun to drive for a wanna be mini van, HID xenon headlight ,the sliding doors and trunk

What I don't like = Cannot install a trailler hitch (from the Mazda owner manual) , a little bit of Understeer, The front door panel : 1) the top is covered with fabric and not with leather (I have the leather interior) 2) the plastic can scratch easily) 3) could have a better storage in those door panel .

We just picked up a 2012 sport with the 6 speed manual. Liquid Silver with Black Interior for $17640. We now have a whopping 260 miles on it! haha. We love it so far... the manual just makes it so worth it. A bummer that we couldn't at least get the bluetooth with it.

I agree. We got the sport back in May but ours is auto. Just turned over 5000 miles and I'm gonna take it in for it's first oil change. Still loving the car. Soon we will be tinting the windows and putting a roof rack on her! Funny thing is my in-laws got the touring with the Bluetooth and they never use it! Maybe I should see if they want to trade.....theirs only has a couple hundred miles on it!
