any reccomendations on a front mount for a 2nd gen? price, brand, and link if possible please. thanks :) (headbang)

Corksport, Cp-e, Cobb, they are all great front mounts. Corksport is currently working on one that will use the SRI. I'm laying in wait for that.

What were the ambient/inlet air temps during the baseline run and then during the install run, and where were the fans located during both?

I can gain 30hp from one dyno to the next on my stock intercooler. A new intercooler will not do you any good unless youre an avid tracker or live in the middle of a city thats average yearly temp is over 100

if anything id recommend investing in a aftermarket top mount with a thinker core. I have had a buddy put a better top mount on both his ms6 and ms3 and the tuner said that they were so efficient there was no need for a front mount.

The only reasons to get a front mount on a GenPu is if you like checking your sparkplugs often, racing, and or getting a Big Turbo. If you do go front mount you will probably need to upgrade your radiator or oil cooling system to offset the airflow that will be blocked off by said front mount.

there is a way to prove these things out which is good advice although an investment into datalogging can help you make sound decisions about tuning.
The stock car has quite a few sensors that something like a Dashawk or plug in device could read back to you. Are your ITA temps good and stable?
Are you getting knock? Even for a beginner getting some real data might be the best thing to invest in if you want to mod a car like this. Even a reputable tune shop and a dyno run or 3.
I got heat soak on the stock one especially in stopped traffic. it could take a good long run to get her to settle down. I felt bad so i bought a larger top mount right away. as big as barely fit. in stopped traffic you still get heat soaked. Nature of the beast. The big unit recovers a bit quicker and takes longer to give in but front mount is the only way to go. There weren't any production FMIC units yet when i bought my nice upgrade but if you are going to start going after more boost and or bigger HP you should consider front mount right off. Consider your build plans.

1st, thanks for reviving dead thread.

Second: GROAN. I highly disagree. A properly setup fmic is far better than TMIC and will NOT heatsoak like the TMIC does.

I'm not sure I'd trust someone who sold a ms6 to get a ms3.

im not sure i would trust somone that that has not had both and would not understand....AND would make a comment like that..lol

It depends how far are you planing on building the car...you can get TMIC for 350$ and FMIC for around 1000$ if you wanna use stock turbo with just a few bolt on and a tune go TMIC.. you going big turbo with everything suporting go FMIC. i sold my TMIC off my speed 6 and went FMIC because i was meliting the hot side intercooler pipe with my garbage PG exhaust mani. save the money if you are staying stock turbo and spend it on other go fast parts

Where can you get a TMIC for $350? Even used. Let's see.

Second, $1000 for a fmic? Wrong.

I made my own for a fraction of that, and far less than A TMIC.
Stock turbos need all the help they can get, because even at factory boost levels, it's to the right of the efficiency range=blowing extremely hot air. A properly sized FMIC will be FAR more efficient/heat soak less than any tmic available. This is a fact.

I would've kept the ms6. but what do I know, I have a 450whp MS3.........you know, FWD. MS6=AWD. But hey. If you like spinning through the first two gears, fine (I spin through 3, thanks). Otherwise, you'd have been better off keeping the 6 and throwing money into it.

corksport and cpe both make TMIC for around 350 400$.
like i said.. Intill you have ouned both dont talk.. everyone wants somthing diffrent in a car.. ms3 is so much more nible around a track... and alot easy to make fast
most of all its not all about being the fastest. hate all you want..you drive a MS3 and you say ms6 is better..lol

i can go on and on but im not. in the end we all drive mazdas and they are cool

being that alex at stratified tuning is a professional tuner, im going to trust what he says when he says that "on stock turbo you wont be flowing enough to have the need for a front mount and would benefit more from a top mount".

My ETS 3.5 TMIC was 6-700 my CPE FMIC plus piping was 1100.
You can make up your on front but much easier to copy a design. The top mount is hard to fab yourself. Its a tight fit and odd angles.

It is about charge air flow. but it's also about keeping IAT's consistently as close to ambient temp.
But a low flow exhaust will also keep heat. There are alot of details if you want to look at them.
Define your goal first.

Mazdaspeeds are very cool !

ms3 is a lot easier to make fast, easier than an MS6?

lay off the ******* crack. Now I KNOW you don't know wtf you're talking about. MS6 motor is identical. MS6 is AWD, and therefore it will always be quicker off the line. Always. You know those traction issues in 1-2 ms3's have? MS6's don't. The fact that you think the ms3 is better is simply asinine. AWD will handle better and launch better. Roll races from similarly modded ms3's and ms6's are usually dead even, too.

I'd trust lex over flyinspeed any day of the week, but I still say a properly sized FMIC will always be better than tmic. It won't heatsoak as much and will still be very efficient.

My ms3 is better than an ms6 because I can haul ass WITH a big screen tv in the back hollah!!!
