Heatsoak and Boost levels

hey guys, quick question for you.

How much of a difference does heatsoak make on your boost levels? I have all the neccessary mods to hold boost, but it keeps trailing off as the rpms goes up. Every now and then it will hold say 8-9ish psi but not to redline and not very often. It just spikes up to 10 and then falls from there. I am thinking that the spike is causing the intercooler to heat up so it is unable to properly cool the charge resulting in lower boost levels, but from what I understand others dont seem to have these problems running 10 or lower psi...

Any insight you guys have would be great.

heatsoak will cause that for sure and your second problem is a Joep MBC I would not consider that a mod that will hold boost, if you want to hold boost you are going to need a better boost controller for sure

not dissing the Joe P MBC but cause I had one and it works great but its not advanced to do this

yeah ive had nothing but problems with it. I turn it 1/4 at nothing happens to the boost level, turn it another 1/4 and im spiking to 15, holding 6 to redline, turn it all the way out and im hitting 11 etc. but i think ive got it in the right spot now, aside from that stupid spike i cant seem to get rid of.

Guys..it's your wastgate spring..if you change it up..you will be able to hold higher boost levels without it spiking like that.

Or just invest into a MBC.

i dont think i wanna risk buying another mbc, anyone know of a decent ebc that isnt too much cash, looking for function over form here, just wanna get the job done right.

i wonder if i could just make a "pill" that could fit on the wastegate line and hold 9psi, hmmmm.

You can pick up a greddy ebc from ********** for 299 with free shipping. I have it on my car and it works great now.

I know there is a simple solution that seems to work but unfortunately I can't find the details anymore :( A guy over here used a carburator spring to ''reinforce'' the wategate. He was making 9.5 psi on the dot, no spikes.

yupyup how? This sounds interesting.... I've heard the Turbo XS dual stage holds boost nicely and doesn't have the quirks ebc's supposedly get.

how does one change the wastegate spring
He didn't touch the wastegate spring at all. He just added a spring with one end attached to the rod (I guess at the end) and the other end to the hose-tube (the middle one, there are three) just in front of the wastegate "cannister", avoiding all issues with warranty...

Bump to keep this at the top... this is intresting and less warranty endangering than a BC... time to google.

i have the greddy (sig) and it works great for me...i hate the thought of having to go under the hood to change boost levels
