Heater Question...

Is our A/C compressor supposed to be on while the heater is running? The vent is turned to "floor only", and the A/C button is turned off. WTF?

I think that I read someplace that it comes on when in the floor only and defrost postions. I have noticed my compressor coming on in the floor only position as well, so I just don't use it. There is a how-to thread on how to disable the auto AC.

It is done for a purpose. Leave it alone. All cars cycle the a/c in those positions to run it through the evaporator so it gets the humidity out. That way it doesn't fog your windshield or promote dampness of the carpet. Again, leave it alone, unless your KraZy like Black majic. lol

Yeah, I mostly don't feel like doing some crazy crap to my electricals, so I left mine alone. I use the bi-level and it works as expected.

Yes, thank you mazda.

Wait anything past split vent/floor will turn the compressor on.

All cars do it. Not just Mazda. Thanks ALL car Manu.

Oh, I don't mind, I've just never noticed it before. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy!(cool)

there is a how-to to get rid of it.
requires soldering and taking half of your dashboard out.

The "How-To" is actually very easy. It takes about half an hour if you are mechanically inclined and have taken a dash apart before. It doesn't require any soldering, just scraping.

It's so annoying having the compressor come on in the winter when you actually don't need it. The heated air will be hot enough to clear your windows. Plus, your gas mileage is taking a hit when this happens.

Do the "How-To", you won't regret it. Plus, you get FULL control over your HVAC system instead of Mazda dictating it.

I followed the How to, but now I don't AC and my parking lights don't work...Do you think I did something wrong?

Uhm, I'm gonna have to go with "yes" on this one.
