Heated seats, anyone?

Has anyone without this factory option had heated seats retrofitted in their Speed6?

I imagine it's simply a matter of buying the correct heating elements from the dealer, installing them in the stock seats, and wiring it all up. Of course that's easier said than done. Anyone have any experience with this? Part numbers for heating elements, wiring harnesses, stock switches?

I did this to the passenger seat in my old GTP (only to keep the girlfriend happy) and it was not what I expected. Tearing out the seat and skinning it was easy, routing the wires (not sure if the sport already has the harness) and setting the heating element was easy, but getting everything back together was the pitstop between the 5th and 6th level of hell. After two days of trying to stretch the leather back on and damaging some of the foam in the process I decided to take it to a local autobody shop that also did interiors. They did a decent job of fixing my foam mishap and getting everything somewhat lined up in the right places, but you could always tell something was not right. The guy even shaved a little of the foam off to recess the gel heat pad part, but you could still feel it was uneven when you sat on it (was warm though). If you don't have experience reskinning upholstery or the proper tools I would not recommend starting with this little project. My advice is if you feel a need for warm seats find a good auto upholstery shop, or just buy some heated underwear (wiggle).

Thanks for the info. Luckily, I have a Sport with cloth seats, so I may be spared the 'tour of hell'. Makes sense that you'd have to strip foam away to make room for the heating elements -- hadn't considered that. Gotta say, this project is looking more and more unappealing.

... maybe I should just have a remote start installed instead.

Has anyone else tried to retrofit heated seats?

I have heated seats and barely ever turn them on! IMO it is way more time and money then its worth! To me when i do turn them on it just get annoying. I actually tried to find a gt without heated seat!

I've been wondering if the current for the seats actually goes through the switch. If it does, you could replace the switch with a variable / dimmer type switch and control the heat. I like the heated seats, but they tend to get too hot.
