The wiring should actually only be an issue of moving one wire from the high beam plug into the low beam plug on the P5 harness. The P5 has an H4 plug for the low beam, with an adapter that lets it plug onto an H7. Add the wire from the high beam plug to activate the high beam filament and you're golden. You won't have the little corner light on the outside edge of the light though, but you don't need it because the Protege5 has a side lamp.

It's true. I know because when I did this, I had to unplug the H7s to get ONLY the high beam effect in my left/right comparison shot. If that's not enough proof, check out the attached avatar I ripped from eljefe305.

Just took these pics with low beams and high beams to prove that both lights are on when high beams are selected. I also attached pic of the low beam shining on my garage door (please no comments about the paint, I plan to re-paint this spring (doh)) that shows the cut-off. It's more pronounced when driving down the road though.

i re-wired my fog lights so I can have them on with my parking lights so when my high-beams are on, all my lights are on (low, high, and fog)

i assume you have hids. That's a good pattern for a non-hid halogen, i just wish i don't find you face to face. lol.


IMHO, i like sedan style than the p5 becuz they give a better cut-off and it feels like more modern lights, and in my experience they give really good lighting. I use PIAA GTX bulbs.

I have the same bulbs. They have a definite cut-off, like I said before. The pic I posted a couple days ago didn't come out right. The fogs combined with the white siding on my house to light up more than is usually lit.

Mine also look more like that. My pic does not really show what they actually look like, but it's hard to take pictures of lights.

Those bulbs are really bright. 5PADZAM's pics looks more realistic, 5PADZAM, try a wider wall, like njaremka.

You can still tell the sedan housing gives a better pattern.

Yeah, I could try that. I also should have turned off my fogs. I think some of the light above the cut-off was reflected from the ground.

I would like to see a side-by-side comparison with a sedan and p5. I will have to see if I can arrange that.

In the case of halogen source, the beam pattern will depend to some extent on your bulbs, too. If you have crappy bulbs in which the filament is not placed correctly you'll get a distorted beam and blurrier cutoff.

I bought cheap $6 Hella 100w 9005 bulbs and their filaments aren't axisymmetrically placed. I'm sure the beam pattern will suffer, but I haven't tried them out yet...
