Okay, I've read all the posts on Headlights and I have a question:

My sister has a new Chevy HHR and my parents have a 5 Series BMW... both their cars have the "cut-off" line for their headlights. I love this look I know my parents have projector head lights, but my sister's Chevy does not.

Does anyone know how I can acheive this look?

Also, can I buy the black head lights from Ebay that are for normal Proteges and not the Protege 5 and just not put the highbeam bulb in?

Thanks for the help!

Mark

that cut-off is a feature of the housing, which unfortunately the protege5 did not receive. (for some reason) you could swap out your lights for the ebay ones, but you will need to do some wiring to make them work correctly. the bulbs are completely different

In mine I can see a small line in the beam pattern but not as distinctive as in a projectors output.

So where the bulb would go in wouldn't be the same "housing" slots?

Man, this sucks. Why can't they make stuff for P5s?!

Another (maybe stupid question) what are HID headlights? I have SilverStar whatever's in there now.

And aslo, is there any way to get brighter fog lights?

The light source is a plasma arc, not a glowing filament like in a halogen bulb.

Brighter halogens and relays or HID or aftermarket fogs--piaa, catz, etc.

Welcome to the forums Mark!

Seeing as you're relatively new here, I'll give you this bit of advice: try the search function. I bet you'll find all your answers within 5-10 minutes of searching.

Also, seeing as you're relatively new here, the answer to your questions are as follows:

1) you would need to install projectors in your headlight housings to create that sharp cut off line in the beam pattern. that's the only way to do it. it would involve baking your headlights in your oven (not kidding) and opening it up and doing some do-it-yourself craftsmanship. it's been done before!

2) sedan headlights will not directly fit on the p5 without a different wiring harness since the sedan headlight is an H4 bulb instead of 2 different bulbs for high/low beam. a bunch of p5 owners have made the conversion though. do a search for it.

3) HIDs are high intensity discharge lights - it's a different kind of bulb that the silverstars and all those brands. The silverstars and the "bright white" halogen lights are HID "lookalikes" (although if you ask me they don't come anywhere close to looking as good as a real set of HIDs). There are many kits you can buy to convert your stock p5 halogens into HIDs...it's one of my favorite mods, in fact!

Have fun on the forums! And don't forget to search! :p

YOU CAN GET SILVERSTARS FOR YOUR FOGS..........

No, dude. Liquid's just messing around.

You can get that knife-edge cutoff using projectors. Also, I retrofitted a past car (VW GTI) with E-spec halogen lighting and it had the sharp cutoff. If that's standard practice in Europe then the EDM headlights for the P5 (323F) probably have it, too, although they're very expensive.

I was recently informed that the sedan headlights are better than the P5's so they might be a good option for you. Maybe njaremka has something to add about the sharpness of the sedan's cutoff and how it compares with the P5's.
