2002 Mp5
I have a 2002 protege5 with the chrome headlights and am looking for some 2003 chrome/black headlights. My reasoning is that I think with the black/chrome ones my HID's wont have such an indirect light.

What headlights are more desirable?

When you say indirect light do you mean scattering light thats hitting the chrome trim??

if so that is possible, you can easily fix it my painting the trim black.

The 02 and 03 P5 headlights are the same. The only one that had the option of black was for the sedan. For the P5 headlights, you would either have to paint them or buy them from someone.

so the 02-03 sedan headlight is fit p5 ?
Size/shape wise they do fit, but will only work if you change the wiring harness, IIRC. The P5 headlights have a seperate hi and low, while the sedan (and MSP, obviously) have a combo hi/low.

Sorry guys I am talking about the Canadian Spec.

02 headlights were dual beam all chrome insides
03 headlights were dual beam chrom / black insides.

c-spec headlights from protegegarage are $500 a pair...pm ken about them. but youre better off just painting them yourself, theres a how-to in the how-to section, its a bit of work...but either way youre gonna be stuck havin to drop the front bumper. but if money isnt an issue then buy the c-spec ones.

+1 for painting. set aside an afternoon if you really take your time and save yourself $500.
gotta agree. im afriad to try to paint mine...i know id screw it up bad, plus i dont feel like droppin the bumper

sorry to threadjack..but anyone know how the GReddy EVO2 exhaust for the p5 sounds? lookin for somethin deep and loud (but not ricer)

^^^. it's not that bad. just make sure you don't break the tabs under the side of the headlight. the directions are pretty clear so it makes it easy. jsut take your time. believe me, I waited 2 1/2 years to do mine and once I was done, I wondered why i waited so long.

yea i heard those tabs were a b****..i might do it over the summer...im doin a DIY caliper paint job this summer with my friend (were doin both my car and his) so i suppose i might try the headlight thing too...but we'll see, cuz i really want it done, i love the way it looks

i just bought them black. i know i could've painted them without a problem but i like the single bulb look alot more plus they're brand spankin new. haven't had them rewired yet but i already got a price for 50 bucks to do it. they're pretty bright so i'm not really worried about that right now.

yea i noticed in your sig pic that you had sedan headlights on your p5. thats cool, at least you like em, thats all that matters. its unique too, dont see too many p5s with sedan headlights

Personally, I prefer the black to the chrome, hence the reason I swapped headlights with one of the guys in town. He had a laser blue and wanted the chrome ones, so it was an easy decision to spend a couple hours removing the front bumper cover to do the swap.

That being said, I know a lot of people vouch for the DIY method. The only potential problem I see with this is the headlights not re-sealing properly. This isn't so much of an issue in climates where it doesn't go below freezing very often. However, here in Canada where we can easily reach temps of -30*C for days on end in the winter, plus windchill, I personally would not want to tempt fate on my headlights re-sealing properly.

Autobahn - I know they're not cheap, but I might be able to get a set of the black ones for you at a better price than you can find locally. I have contacts with some of the dealerships in town. Let me know if you'd like more info.

I can get them for you - the Protege5 dual beam headlights with the black housing. They are about $400CA EACH, plus shipping.
