Headers....?

What do you guys think about the $60 exhaust headers on ebay? Or any Header for that matter.
Are they any good?
I would have to remove the Catalyst ...right? then what? ...will the CEL be on?
 
I would point you to the thousand threads about this but I'm guessing you've already searched and didn't find them. Sorry, leftover caca from trying to help someone out in another thread.

All headers are not created equal. Get an OBX. Yes it removes the 1st cat. Yes there will be a CEL. Yes there is a 4$ mechanical fix for it by stacking 2 spark plug non-foulers, drilling one out to 1/2 inch and putting the 2nd o2 sensor in that instead of straight into the header.

the other option is to put the stock manifold and precat back on for emissions testing
 
I have to pass emissions test where I am and it does every time.

What do the initials "FS" stand for?
I have also seen "FS-ZE" ?

I was looking at buying new exhaust & intake CAM shafts and "they" said is would work in my "FS" powered engine.
Any Ideas?
 
you need to be better friends with the "Search" feature. . ..
 
I cannot tell if you will pass emission test since I'm in Canada and it doesn't exist in our country but I have an OBX header; high quality and no modification to the existing system required; has the EGR tubing connector, the 2 o2 sensors connectors, really easy to install. As far as the CEL goes, the spark plug non foulers trick mentionned above is the way to go. Install it on the second o2 sensor ( the one on your left when you're in front of the car ) and you're done. Had the OBX since March and never had any single issue, no CEL or anything.

Oh and BTW, the FS is the 2.0L engine powering our cars, ZM is the 1.6L .... hope that helps

Our 2.0L's are FS-DE, Japan's version is FS-ZE. It has higher compression, different intake manifold with no VTCS, different cams, more HP, etc etc. FS on the forum means For Sale.........
 
yeah alot people get their panties tied in a bunch when you ask a question thats already been asked. its like just answer the question and quit bein a dick and snapping at people just because they asked a question thats already been asked. CHILL OUT!!

lol and that is the number 1 reason people dont search because they get so many repeat threads and dont bother reading........ just sayin.

I remember when I did my header back when it all started. I actually got a 626 header and modded it with the egr bung. Worked like a charm back then. I also did the resistor trick for no cell. Worked great when I had it.

I've had a header for 5 yrs and passed every time...........

Do you switch out the header with the old CAT every time you go for the emissions test?
No....I leave it on, they hook up their computer, I get new sticker...............

Alright, my bad guys. I tried searching and i have to admit, i failed too, so please forgive me

But i've run both stock, OBX, and Ractive longtube. I didn't notice any gains one vs the other, but i DID notice exhaust note. I had the magnaflow catback as the exhaust

OBX- BEASTLY SOUNDING around town, but droned like a MF causing both myself and my wife to have splitting headaches after a 2 hour highway trip

Ractive- Not NEARLY as mean sounding around town, but still good. And minimal drone compared to OBX.

I have yet to run an AWR true 4-2-1 though so i have no comment on that.


But no one piece will make the car faster, do the header, you'll need an intake, high flow cat, and catback

This car is a puzzle, and it takes a lot of parts to make it great.

It's good stock, but like some cars, drop on a header and you've got 10HP gain, the FS-DE, drop a header and you'll see MAYBE 3?
 
Its the a good looking headers... don't get me wrong but paying for $529 mine as well go turbo with msp setup you get more for your money.
