Headers... any word on them?

do not remove the 5 mph bumers...You never know when some shmuck will hit your car! I got hit a 5MPH in rush hour traffik in my neon by a minivan....the suport saved the facia dual chrome tip muffler and just about everything behind it. if you look at some things from the back side and the front bumper for our 6 is like 3 inches shorter. The 3 was imported but under our strict specs. I guess mazda got smart and figured the dealerships would pull a dodge and never put anything above 87 in if there wasn't a turbo attached (jerkit) so when you test drive both the 170 hp 2.3 would feel less powerfull.

Do-Lucks

Actually, I spoke with Morris King at BoomPlusToys and he said if I go with a +45 offset (all Do-Lucks are made to order), the 18x8" will work fine with the 3.
Also, though it is common for US-spec vehicles to have lower compression ratings than their Japanese counterparts (mostly for emissions reasons), I was under the impression that the Mazda3 does not suffer the same fate: both US and J-Spec versions run the same compression, timing and ignition curve. In fact, my dealer told me the only reason the two use different ECU's is due to the extra O2 sensors and such that strict CA emissions laws require.

Oh, and here are the pics you wanted:
1st is the J-spec Red Taillights
2nd is the custom Carbon Fiber Dash Panel and Pioneer DEH-P9300
3rd is the J-spec shifter from Auto-EXE and center console
4th is the MA Audio Amp and Alumapro 10" Subs
5th is the J-spec Carbon Fiber Ram-Air Intake from Auto-EXE and grounding kit

The L3 Engine for JDM and the L3 engine for the US have different compression ratios. Thats why the JDM version makes more power. (US is 9.7:1 @ 160 bhp, JDM is 10.7:1 @ 176 bhp) This of course means that various engine internals differ, requiring that bolt ones be retested on the US spec before they can be sold.

As for that wheel combination...it'll work, but only if you roll your rear fenders...and you may be limited on the width of the tire your able to run.

Okay, my dealership lied, those bastards. I did a little sniffing around and found that you are indeed correct, what is interesting is what else I found out. Apparently, the Mazda6's 2.3L makes the same 176hp you spoke of using a higher compression head, and they switched it out for a lower compression one for the 3 to meet stringent compact car emissions regulations. Now for the real question: Wouldn't it then be theoretically possible to take the head from the 6 and swap it on the 3 and achieve the J-spec compression ratio? Of course I'd assume this would be advised against by any Mazda dealer/rep, but the part numbers for the Japan pistons and American pistons are the same, so far all I've found different is the head casting itsself, though there are alot of other components that I have yet to go through.

Nim,

I believe that the JDM Mazda 3 also uses a high compression head. That would probably be easier to deal with.

Other things to note...the JDM spec's require higher octane fuel (91 instead of 87) so there is also some additional A/F and Timing changes between the two engines.

US spec 3s engine=US spec 6i engine...I can't vouch for the pcms of either the atenza(JDM 6) or axela(JDM 3) are an eazy swap.

Thanks, I checked it out and indeed they only offer the size you specified, and I went back to my email archives and Mr. King did say +34, either way it should work fine, if I have any problems with them being too deep, I can always add some Eibach pro-spacers and widen the wheelbase a bit. It may be alot of effort once I get them, but if they can cram a set of 20's on a civic and make it look show-quality, then it can't be too hard to make the 18's fit on the 3.

Can we keep this on the topic of exhaust, please?

pretty interesting thread as far as the differences between J-spec and US 2.3l motors. Sounds like a pretty good mod would be to swap out the high compression head (ported/polished, etc) and the J-spec ecu (if it also removes rev limiter/speed limiter) or maybe a ECU reflash. Could be seeing much much better gains in hp/tq than if we stuck with the current heads.
Of course all this would cost a pretty penny esp JDM stuff.

Nevermind me though I'm just blabbering (silly)

D'oh need to update my profile.. I got a 3 now

Recaro seats

What model of Recaros are you going to buy?

The recaro's are built for Auto-EXE and come with their logo embroidered under the Recaro insignia, they are designed as a direct replacement for the stock units and require no additional brackets or rails to install. Here's a link to look at them:

Enjoy!

Just to verify...they are a direct replacement for the stock seats in the MSP? How much do they cost?

At least keep it on the topic of the Mazda 3, folks!
