Has anyone got the B-Spec kit?

What do you want to know about it? The reason why is you have to run the spec suspension kit required by the rules for SCCA for the B-Spec class.

So are you saying that the Mazda "B-Spec Kit" doesn't actually conform to SCCA's guidelines?

I have seen this a while ago and I noticed one part that I really want for that kit and that is the sandwich type oil cooler. I can't believe that their hasn't been a oil cooler kit built specifically for the Mazda2 outside of this Mazda2 B-Spec kit.

It does meet the rules. The why is to answer your question you asked, you are required to run it in you are racing B-Spec.

The exhaust will be loud, its just pipe with no muffler IIRC. Suspension will be too firm for most daily drivers. Its probably a good deal for someone that wants to use the 2 mainly for track or dedicated B-spec competition, and not so much the majority of enthusiasts/weekend warriors.

Okay, I was just surprised nobody on here had bought it themselves. I suppose now it's probably only the hardcore people out there who actually intend on racing competitively who had it done.

Thanks.

not all the kit is legal for stf, and stf is a lot easier to get into than B-spec racing.

Yeah, I had suspected that it might be a tad too hardcore for street use. My friends keep telling me that I should buy the B-Spec kit, and I keep telling them that I don't really think it's that simple. There's a reason why nobody on here has bought it, and it's probably for the reasons you've outlined above. Not to mention it's bloody expensive (not compared to what racing mods usually cost, but for a DD) and that you can get more street-appropriate parts for far less money.

I'd much rather get the CorkSport adjustable dampers and roll bars and keep things streetable.

The 2 uses the same oil filter as a Miata so I would think that any Miata one would work, and there are a lot of them out there.

The oil cooler from mazdaspeed looks tempting . I searched for the oil cooler separate from the Bspec kit and no luck .

Here is the part from the Bspec kit , you still have to tap into and run your own coolant lines.

This link has more details .

I found a similar miata kit on goodwin , but someone will have to take the plunge to make it work .

The suspension is really stiff so street driving is a tad rough.

That's right I forgot that our oil filter is at the bottom of the block. Not every Miata one will clear for the install. I was thinking the filter was on the side of the block.

Well, I didn't know that. I'm going to do some more research into miata sandwich oil coolers and see if I can find something that would fit on our Mazda2's.

Is that oil cooler or just an exchanger?

Heat exchanger but the parts book says oil cooler though. We purchased one for our B-Spec 2 but we have not installed it. It reminds me of the coolers used on the back of the 323GTX engine with smaller coolant lines.

That's why i was also confused, because in the picture i see heat exchanger and not an oil cooler as the brochure says.

Isn't an "oil cooler" a "heat exchanger?" I'm not sure why the distinction. The B-spec cooler looks to be "oil-to-water" like the OEM oil cooler on the Mazdaspeed Protege. It's neat kit. I got a chance to check out a B-Spec 2 last year at Mid-Ohio. Way too hardcore for anything I'd ever do in the 2.

This is why it is actually an heat exchanger, because it exchanges the heat from the hotter liquid to the cooler liquid.

This is an Oil cooler:

It doesn't have to be a liquid to be a heat exhanger. The only difference is heat is being exchanged between oil and air passing through the vanes rather than between oil and coolant flowing through a loop. It's all convection either way. Actually oil/air-water coolers are much more efficient than oil/air-air because of the higher heat transfer properties of water.
