Has any Aussie owner tried E10

With the price of petrol going ever north and even regular uneaded in the pricing territory of premium, the CX9 is getting quite expensive to feed. Anyway, since the car states that it is suitable for E10 consumption I thought that I would give it a go. After reading a heap of stories about what E10 has done to some peoples' cars (not CX 9s) I was quite sceptical about how well it would work and what it would do to the engine. I was quite pleasantly surprised to find that there is no discernable difference in power between using E10 and regualr, but the E10 seems to be lasting longer in my tank than regular. I'll only know what it's doing under the bonnet after my first service in another 5000km. I would like to know the impressions on anyone else filling up with Ethanol based fuel.

I too thought the E10 gave better fuel economy, and power was good too, but in saying that I'm still sceptical about using it long term. I think the only problem that would arise, is the need to change the fuel filter more often, but Im not claiming to be any sort of an expert on this matter.

E10 hurts nothing, gives no more power and gives 4% LESS MPG. No way around ethanol having less BTU/gal than gasoline.

If that 4% figure is true then here in Australia you are costing yourself more by using E10. E10 is 3c/litre cheaper than unleaded. Using an average price for unleaded of A$1.60/litre that equates to a 1.875% reduction in price. For there to be a saving E10 would need to be at least 7c/litre cheaper with unleaded at $1.60.

I've tried it seems ok. My local BP station is not selling normal unleaded, only E10. Of course, that means they bump up the price to normal unleaded price!!

As you say, unless price difference accounts for higher consumption why use it? The goverments carry on about these "green" biofuels and farmers plant crops only to serve the ethanol industry while the world runs out of food.

here's extract from BP site about fuel consumption...skirting around the facts.

"Ethanol has lower energy content than petrol, which can mean that ethanol blends have slightly lower fuel economy than conventional petrol. However, because ethanol blends are still made from at least 90% petrol, the difference is unlikely to be noticeable and less than the typical difference that results from natural variations to driving conditions."
