Hardwiring My Valentine1...

Can anyone tell me which wire they used or I should use to clip their little accessory power dongle V1 provides. Obviously I would like the V1 to fire up with the car and off with the car, just like the radio.

Thanks in advance gents...

I can not advise on hard-wiring anything to the power, but I can tell you that your cigarette lighter turns off with the car. So If you have a three way splitter for the lighter sitting right behind the cup holders like me, you would just need to run that wire from the V1 down to that area. An idea if you do not feel comfortable about splicing into your wiring.

I used the hardwire kit with my 8500 and all I did was run a wire from my headliner down the drivers side 'A' pillar and under the dash. The once I remove the center console I could see the back of the cigarette lighter and I plugged into 12V switched with the clip that comes with the kit. It works like a charm and my radar is only on while my car is.

where's loganville?

(peep)

sorry but that is what everybody used to ask me when i said i was from loganville!

now to your issue at hand...

where are you trying to mount the v1? used to have my radar detector mounted above my rearview mirror pulling power from the sunroof switch. i would suggest using your dmm and finding switched power close to your mounting point or go right off the fuse block.

I went and took out the 2 side panels right next to the center console and used their kit with the cig lighter and then ran the wire underneath the dash up the a-pillar and up under the headliner and it comes down right next to my mirror. Works well.

Do you remember which wire you spliced into (color?)at the cig lighter and can the phone cable be snaked up the a-pillar without pulling it? If not how does that come off? I had no trouble with the lower panels, but that one seems a little tougher...

you just put the blue adapter on top of the positive wire (red if I remember correctly) and use a pair of pliers to clamp down on it, shouldn't actually have to splice anything. Then take the actual adapter that they give you and ground it to the same place the cig lighter is grounded to and the adapters should just clip together. The one that is grounded should be one that's connected to a metal bar behind there, I'll see if I can borrow a digital camera in a bit to take some pictures of it. Hope this helps.

I did the same operation to power my XM unit. I tapped into the 12V lead for my amp's remote turn on. You can buy the piggy back splice things at any auto parts store and they work well.

Does anyone know the color of a 12V switched wire under the steering column that is easily accessed? I dont have a multi-meter so I cant probe around under there looking for one....

Better yet, maybe someone could snap a pic under there and point one out for me...

Much obliged...
