Hi Steffan

I tapped mine into a power wire down by the driver foot well on the left side. I used a power probe to locate a wire that switched on and off with the ignition.

It's kinda ghetto, but you can always run it to the fuse box. I've done it before and it's easy.

speaking of which, if you hard wire, use an inline fuse (5A at most) to avoid SURGING it on rare occasion. I say if you spend over $100 on a detector, you can afford a $5 in line fuse

What questions did you still have lq311?
What you want to do is very possible and I have done it several times in various cars.

radar

i say hook it up to ur cig lighter and u will have power all the time the car is on and not to far to run the wiring!!!

Has anyone tried to hard wire it to the map light/moonroof control area? This is where I would like to because I could keep the detector near the top of the windshield and have the wire going a short distance to the map lights.

I hard wired my detector to my rear windshield wiper fuse in the fuse box. Just take the cable that comes with it and strip the wire. Spin the fuses together, and your done. I ran the wire itself inside between my dash and my windshield, had it for almost a year now and it works like a charm. I grounded the wire to a metal bolt under my seat. Took me no more then 15-20 minutes.

I have mine mounted right above my rear view mirror. What I did was splice the power cord and run the wire along the ceiling and down the pillar to folllow my amplifer cable straight to the battery with a inline fuse holder. I also have it wired into a switch right next to the dimmer thing, so i can turn it on and off when i want too. Total cost 5 bucks.
