Hard Shifting

Anybody have problems with hard shifting from 1 to 2 in the automatic? When the car's warmed up, the first few shifts feel like i'm being rear ended! This problem goes away after the engine is completely hot.

They all seem to do this.

Not uncommon w/ the 4spd. Once the car is warm it won't do it again. Recommendation, let your car warm up.

how annoying

the thing is, i let my car warm up for quite awhile. Just seems like the engine needs to be run a bit before the problem stops. it's just the most annoying thing.

At least...

you have cold air, your windows don't make a popping sound, you don't get any air bag or check engine lights, you haven't scuffed your rims, rock haven't fallen on your car, you have no rail dust, you haven't been hit nor have you hit anything, your windshield isn't cracked, you don't have rock chips, you don't complain about the supersoft motor mounts when shifting and if you have a sunroof you haven't left that fricken thing open...did I leave anything out?

Things could be worse.

go to the dealer and complain... if ur too lazy then i recommend the following
ease off the gas when u know its gonna change from 1st to 2nd. once it changes... gas it again.
OR
just let go of the gas completely (tats what i do with my old car).
hope this helps... latez

Do you mean to say you let the car warm up stationary-speaking or as you're driving?

This sounds like something the dealer should be able to diagnose.... or at least they can call the Mazda techline and find out what's up with your shifting. I've driven several Mazda3s when they were cold and none did what you've described.

It's just a Mazda transmission. Mine does it and my ZX2 also did it since it also had a Mazda tranny. You can't really warm up the transmission fluid sitting still. Drive it and take it easy until it warms up.

Perfectly normal. But if it bothers you that much, you'll have to leave it at the dealer overnight so they can drive it cold.

No kidding... I've experienced all of the above except for the cracked windshield and sunroof left open :) . Knock on wood. So things could be a lot worse than that. Why don't you just enjoy the car?

What I do, when I shift or feel when the car will shift from 1st to 2nd I put my foot a lil more on the gas and I dont feel anything

Good point...

Good point Mikey, this is true.

Thanks for everyone's reply. I do love my car but of course, everyone wants their car to be absolutely perfect. I've eased off the gas and also gassed it up and it both works. Not going to bother to take it to the dealer until the first service.
