Haltech ECU

I really don't knoe too much about the internals of our cars. I've just been hearing things about how the MP3 ECU basically is blocking alot of the HP from mods that you do to your car. I talked to my co-worker about this problem and he told me about the Haltech ECU. Thing is, I don't knoe too much on ECUs, but has anyone gotten it yet? I'm still trying to research and learn more about the FS motor internals....

i think hiboost uses that ecu....as for mp3 ecu messing with mods, thats a new one for me

I guess thats true in a weird way. Basically the MP3 ECU as well as the other 3rd gen ECU (in the P5, ES, DX, LX etc) run pretty damn rich. The MP3 ECU does have slightly advanced timing which is good for NA, but bad for boost. If you're planning on staying NA, you could probably get the Haltech that HiBoost uses on their kits to simply lean out the mixture a bit, but it won't touch timing. I'd go for the piggyback available from Modern Performance Works that can do fuel and timing. But who knows if that thing will ever be available to the public.

hiboost can get the heltect ek6 that will control the timing. and it is already avalible.

OK, now I feel like a damn newbie...

Who the heck is HiBoost? And they have a stand alone set up working using Haltech?

they are currently using the F10, but have the new E6X on track for release soon....main difference is that the e6x will control timing in addition to fuel..... very good stuff.....

Perfworks is done with one too right? I haven't really followed that thread because I'm not going FI. Can anyone ellucidate that situation?

Yeah, perfworks' system that is kind of done, but not really is a piggyback that adjusts fuel and timing, but lets the ECU do the other housekeeping. The last time I saw pricing on the perfworks piggyback, it was around $700. The E6K or new E6X is a complete standalone that replaces the stock ECU. Supposedly E6Ks can be had for under $1k! Just gotta keep an eye out for them on EBay etc.

I've been hearing about the piggyback from perfworks' since like April, but it seems like you can't buy it yet, and they would still need to make maps for NA.

perfworks piggy is now available. contact micah or Modern Performance.

I dont think hiboost has released the haltechs to the public yet, unless you have their kit. soon the e6x will be available.
