This is the reply i got

I am pleased to receive your email in reply to my advertisement regarding the 2006 Mazda Speed 6 , for sale at the price of 4,000.00 CAD.
The car is in a very good condition, with absolutely no problems. It looks and it runs great. It has 100 000 km, and it was well taken care of (garaged, periodically serviced and professionally verified). Please rest assured that you will have no problems to register the car in your name, as all the necessary papers for the registration process will be made available for you.
For the sake of accuracy I have to tell you that I am currently out of Canada due to my recent divorce. However this will not affect our transaction. The car is still in Canada, stored at the shipping company, waiting to be delivered to your address for a 5 days testing period (with no obligation to buy). The shipping will be free of charge for you, of course.
I know that my car will meet your requirements and I hope that I will soon do business with you. It will be a pleasure for me to provide further
details if you are still interested.
PS: I would greatly appreciate a prompt reply!

HAHA WTF, are you serious? I have never seen this before, is this a common scam these days?

Stored at the shipping company sounds really weird. I dont know of too many shipping companies except auto transport that would hold a car.

The picture on the link with the odometer showing is fizzy but it doesnt look like a 98000 in the first two number it looks like more 56000

why would they want someones name address and phone number? you can look that stuff up in a phone book...

If you do full screen you can clearly see it's 56921.
I think the scam is that he doesn't have a car at all, he just wants your 4k.
And by offering a car that's way below market value, someone might just jump on it without thinking.
The fact that he is conveniently out of the country makes it easy for him to
have an excuse not to show anyone the car in person.

This is a slightly different spin on an old scam. I had listed my MPV on AutoTrader and got several people "interested" with situations similar to this seller. If you continued with them, they would tell you that they owed someone some money and this person would be the one to give you the car. All you would have to do would be to give them half the value of the car in a cashier's check. Of course if you do this, you would be out the money with no car.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, guess what, it's a duck! Things that sound too good to be true, in this day and age, are scams 99% of the time.

fu(k a duck!. tell him that you want to go to the shipping company and see it for yourself. whatever his excuse for why you wouldn't want to go there, tell him that it is perfect and you will do it that way. make up a really weird ass story of why it can't go to your house and you are ultra-paranoid. make really ridiculous demands and see what happens. i just like to f with people who f with me.

If you can't tell its a scam, you shouldn't be in the market for a car. Happened to a female friend of mine. Found an A4 online, sent 3000 and was without either, she told me after the whole ordeal.

You would be surprised alot of dumb people fall for this kind of scam all the time they just sit back and wait for some dumbass to take the bait. I know a person at my work who did this and lost out on a vr4 he sent a western union 3k it was to be shipped pretty much the same story never happened. I didnt know him at this time but he isn't the sharpest knife in the droor. Please report all scams either by craigslist flag or to autotrader they will act on it.

Very common scam.

I'm sure it happens everywhere, but I see it often on Kijiji.
I've followed up on this as well and sent back 2-3 emails before stopping.

They will try to trick you into logging into a fake ebay site, saying ebay and paypal is secure and will ensure your transaction is legit.
They won't ask for the full 4000, they will ask for a deposit, for example $1500. Of course, if you enter your paypal information, you will never see your $1500 again and risk losing your bank information etc.

Google eBay escrow scam and 419 (nigerian) scam. They aren't the same as this but it works on the same principle where the scammer is able to entice people who are naive and then take their money.

sounds familiar. I responded to an ad on Kijiji for an 06 Toyota Tacoma Quad cab 4x4 TRD with 50k kms for $12000 about a year ago. Story was he moved from Canada to Portugal and it didn't meet emissions standards there. He'd rather sell it back to another Canadian than go through the hassle of whatever conversions would be needed over there. At the time comparable units were going for $25k++ here. All I did was email him back asking for the vin and a scan of the original registration. Never heard back from him. Huh, what a surprise!

I say you play with him, pretend your a police officer and you'd gladly take the offer. See what happens then...

I'm thinking the same thing. It's a reply that is obviously pre-written and probably mass used based on the 'ad' that is posted. I can see that the mileage is only about 56000 miles. Look closely, it's a US car with US gauges, so the listed kms are atleast 7000 off.
Definately a poor attempt at a scam. Look at the rear shot of the exterior. He blurred out the plate, bu the reflection shows that it DOES NOT have an Alberta plate. Looks like blue lettering, not red.
Also note that because he is 'out of the country', that gives the 'seller' a easy way out of having any direct contact with you. I'd like to see someone follow this and scam the scammer!

Tell him something completely stupid. Be like, "ship the car to my house now, as soon as I get it, I'll give you $10,000." lol.

Who the hell are you and why are you protesting what I posted?
And even more curiously why should I care?
