Drooling over the Mesa head and cab.....
yeah, i love it. I got lucky....my daddy bought that for my 16th bday!!

yes, i paid him back over time.....

So I emailed Paul Reed Smith asking about the pots and got this email back in about 5 minutes!

"Thank you for your interest in Paul Reed Smith Guitars. The pots are
designed to flow very freely, but you could probably add a little
resistance to them by removing the knob and adding a small piece of felt
or other soft material that could supply a little "drag" on the pot.
Then of course re-attach the knob.

If you have a warranty related problem, we can work it out so that the
parts are replaced. But I'm not sure if this would be considered a
"warranty" related issue.

I hope you find this information helpful. Thank you for your continued
support of Paul Reed Smith Guitars."

well, I am going to bump this thread because I bought a new guitar last night :) I am now the owner of a Gibson Les Paul Standard Premium Plus AAA Flame Top :) yeah, long name. The color is called light burst. sticker price on this guitar was $2569 and worth every penny. That just means I have spent about $6,000 on new guitars in 9 months (bang) I need a damn gf.

Anyway, my lineup now includes:
Gibson Les Paul Standard Premium Plus AAA Flame Top (light burst)
20th Anniversary Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 10 Top (black cherry)
DeArmond M75T (some blue color)
Martin D15 Mahogany Top (satin finish)

without further ado, pictures :) (oh, and the date is wrong on the pictures, but I dont know how to turn them off)

Have you ever looked into tradition guitars?? Quite inexpensive in comparison, but easily rival some of the big names in quality and sound. I have a friend that took one to a New York recording studio and the sound engineer had him switch to a PRS and after a minute or so, he said 'pick that tradition back up. It sounds much better.' It was the sound engineer who recorded Tommy Tutone if that helps with credibility. I can't vouch for their guitars because I don't play geetar, but I've played bass for years and years and their electric basses are "top notch Danny, top notch!!" (Just had to get the Caddy Shack ref. in there.)

I've got a tradition. It will rival the sound of the les paul for less cash. I also have a yamaha pacifica which actually has a fuller sound to it. Much better sounding than a fender strat. The tradition has a silky neck to it and is MUCH more comfortable to play, especially when doing solos far down on the neck. My only problem with the tradition is that I break strings on it like it's my job. I also play chords pretty hard as I'm into punk/hard rock music. It's the way the the strings are threaded through the bottom there I guess. The Pacifica is a champ though, rarely ever break 'em. However, I prefer the pacifica for straight power chrods and full melodies, while the tradition makes great use of easy solo transitions and exquisit feel. The Pacifica was my very first guitar and I'm also surprised how well it sounds even now.

Gambino, What does it say on the bell of your beautiful Les Paul? Great purchase!! Are those Ceramics or Alnico's in there?

Once I get my digicam repaired, I'll post some pics of the new ones I've decided to pick up.

(Spector ReBop4 DLX, Ibanez SRX 705)

There are plenty of guitars with bolt-on necks that sustain like crazy.

The best thing you can do is decide for yourself, dude. Instruments are a very personal thing. s***, when i asked for advice on getting a bass here, i ended up getting something toally different. And I'm glad I did.
I agree. I had a custom Charvel Fusion Deluxe more than ten years ago with the through neck and it was awesome but I can not afford to spend that much on a guitar now so I bought a beat up, Jackson standard Fusion with a bolt on neck and it has great sustain.
Of course I am just an metalhead that likes to rip off a few licks now and again. (headbang)

Check this quote from Charvel "The Charvel EVH Art Series Guitar is a hand-built replica of Edward's original striped guitar. Designed by the master himself for mind-blowing neck-tapping solos. Custom-striped basswood body outfitted with a special-wound EVH humbucker and Floyd Rose Original locking vibrato. Single tone knob and Van Halen-favored compound-radius bolt-on maple fretboard/neck give this Art Series Guitar unparalleled playability."

Also, for comparison, Petrucci, Vai, Satriani, Hendrix, Stevie Ray -- all of those guys play/played guitars with bolt-on necks.

it is actually just a sticker that says "50s style neck" I took it off though.
and they are alnico's. The guitar sounds amazing, even through my cheap fender amp. I am having trouble deciding if the Les Paul or the Paul Reed Smith will be my main guitar, as I haven't played the Les Paul through my Mesa yet. I am super picky with my sound though, and honestly see me designating certain guitars for certain songs (which will get really annoying at shows)

Switching guitars isn't that big of a deal until you try and keep several in tune at a show. In one of my old bands we had 8-9 guitars between me and the lead singer on stage. It was nice since we had several alternate tunings that we went back and forth between as well as switching acoustic to electric. We each kept at least one spare standing by to grab in the middle of a song incase we broke a string or something. Now I'm down to just one acoustic and one electric which is a lot easier to deal with, but I truely miss being surrounded by guitars on stage. I never got used to the necks on the Les Pauls, but I loved the way they sounded.

Got the digicam back, and decided to quit being lazy.

From left to right: Samick Fairlane, Spector ReBop, Ibanex SRX705, Spector Legend. No amp shots, too lazy.

Little closeup of the ReBop and SRX.

Epiphone Dreadnaught, Taylor Big Baby, 1967 Fender Stratocaster, and the 2 Samicks that I don't remember the names of. In the background is my pedalboard, and the Peavey Delta Blues 115 all tube amp.

Closeups (bad) of the Strat. You can see the bullet truss rod and large headstock. Only mod is a set of graphite saddles.

Enjoy.

That Spector Legend is nice, I dont know much about basses but it looks the best :)

How does that Taylor sound? I am debating whether I should get another Martin or a Taylor

Actually, the Legend (far right) is a lower-end model. The ReBop (2nd from left) is far and away the best of the 4.

Here's my latest acquisition. It's a Les Paul made by Ibanez in the '70s. They got sued by Gibson because they were making better Les Pauls than Gibson was. Surprisingly, it has a bolt-on neck, but it plays like butter and sustains forever. It's got really low frets so it doesn't squeal as well as my SG.
Here's
a song that I played it on.

Don't ever get an addiction this bad. Late 80's Spector NS-2 neck-thru w/active EMG's. It's got a bunch of scratches (it's almost 20 years old) but no biggie. Plays awesome.

I was at guitar center last night with our bass player (picking up a new ampeg 8x10 cab) and I found out my acoustic was in high demand?? I was talking with one of my buddies who works there and I mentioned upgrading from my Marting D15 to something better. He said Martin stopped making the all mahogony one (like the one I have) and went to some laminant. He said there is a list of people who want it :) I may actually get more for the guitar than what I paid for it 6 years ago
