guage question

:
2003 Spicy Orange MazdaSpeed Protege
ok, so i'm getting a 3 gauge pod but don't know exactly what guages to get. i'm getting the apexi turbo timer which shows a/f ratio and voltage. so right now i only have a boost guage. i was thinking oil pressure egt or fuel pressure. however the fuel pressure and egt guages are expensive. i am probably going to get a nitrous gauge when the time comes but that won't be for a while. i looked on jegs for the autometer phantom gauges and the boost and oil pressure ones weren't expensive, but the fuel pressure and egt were atleast $100. plz help me out with any info you can contribute.

i belive the fuel pressure guage is more expsnsive because it comes with some kind of sender so that you dont bring fuel into the cabin. i thought it was either a liquid filled or air filled line, dunno. i would get the boost, water temp, and pyrometer in your case. yeah the car has a water temp guage, but it only reads: cold, worm, and you just toasted your engine! so its always nice to have a more acurate reading som you can see when the temp starts to go up. since your TT has the A/F you wont need that. the pyrometer can be just as useful of a tuning tool as a wideband so that wouldn't be bad, but neither would the fuel or oil pressure. **** it man, just get themn all!! three on the pillar, three under the radio!! good luck

I have the same Turbo Timer. It's a nice idea but it is slower than an A/F. I would do both. Once you have found the wire for the TT its s*** simple to do both.

Fuel pressure requires a sender. Don't bother. Oil Pressure is easier and more important.

i'm deff getting a boost gauge. the pyrometer i saw was like $135 for the autometer phantom and the fuel pressure was 100 i think and the egt was over 100. after i get my c02 sprayer i'm going to get a nitrous gauge and prob one or 2 other gauges and custom put them above the vents in the middle. so saying this what do you think i should go with? also what is a good place to get a guage pod the same color as the interior

Cool, you have alot of diferent systems in your car. I don't want to sound like I'm telling you what to do and I don't know if you have already or not. The stock IC is really small and if you upgraded it there might not be a requirement for a sprayer.

i'm deff ganna upgrade to an FMIC and get the sprayer as well. also what do you mean its too slow on the TT?? i'm asking because i don't really know what guages are most needed but i also don't want to spend a whole lot of money on guages. right now i just have an injen CAI and the turbo timer. mbc, fpr, fcd are in the mail and i'll have the FMIC and full exhaust by spring hopefully the sprayer by summer.

the Apex-i has an O2 based A/F function. It's delived as numbers.

Averaged A/F is a nice feature. it should real 14.5 or as cloae to it as long as the car isn't going past 130 Km/h or Slowing down.

130 Km/h the car goes into "Slavage Mode" The injectors dump more fuel to save the internals.

Slowing down. The car goes full lean bacause yuo don't need fuel when you are trying to use engine compression.

I like the guage because you can keep track of it out of the corner of your eye. The Apex-i is dificult to read. Just my thoughts bro. Once you have tapped the wire for the Turbo timer, it's really easy to hook up the A/F as well

Just a note: The autometer A/F and the EGT are not accurate enough to do ANY tuning. The EGT is very slow to respond and would lead to a blown engine if you tried to use it for tuning.

If you do oil pressure or fuel pressure, be sure to get electronic gauges, you do not want either fluid in the car. There was a thread about someone that hooked up a mechanical oil pressure gauge in his gauge pod and one day he had oil dripping off the gauge pod. GO ELECTRIC! :)

If you just want gauges "for show" get anything. If you want to tune with them or actually have useful information, you're going to have to spend some money. For tuning, your best bet is just to get a wideband.

i am willing to spend money and i am going to use them to tune. however the EGT gauge i saw was $135. thats a little too much for me to spend on a guage right now. the fuel pressure i think was 100 and thats not bad i will spend it. where can i get a wideband if its the most accurate?
