GT28RS Intake??

Anyone know of an intake that will work well with the GT28RS? It has a 3" diameter opening, so not sure if there is a particular one that works well. I'm looking for a short ram intake, but at this point anything will do. I don't have my stock turbo in hand to measure the diameter to see what the difference would be between the two.

I saw the Weapon R one, but since it says it sucks in 3x more air than a usual intake, I'm not certain that my MAF would read right on that one. Any help is appreciated.

You might just want to get a 3" to 2.5" reducer for the intake to keep the MAF happy, other than that I'm not sure what you can use that wouldn't throw a CEL. The stock diameter is 2.5" I believe and if you go bigger than that the MAF goes crazy (N/A or turbo).

Yeah, I figured it would go crazy and freak out. I may just get an AEM or Injen CAI/SRI or figure out something, and end up reducing it to the 2.5".

1) Convert an injen cold air intake into a short ram intake.

2) The injen cai has 2 different sized sections. The smaller section is a reducing section for the stock turbo inlet. Cut the section with the smaller diameter off.

3) The remaining injen pipe has an outer diameter of 2.75 inches.

4) The gt2860's compressor inlet has an outer diameter of 3.04 inches. So buy a 45 degree silicon reducing coupler that goes from 3 inches to 2.75 inches.

This is how i am running my setup. 505zoom was the first to do it this way.

Here are some pictures of my setup:

Thank you so much for the photos.. that gives me a very good idea to go by. I've found a Weapon R pipe that I can use coming off the turbo, it's 3", and then I figure I can get a reducer and put the reducer on the end of the pipe to make it 2.75", then the MAF, then another section of pipe (if I can find a small piece), then the filter.

np, glad i could help.

on a side note, what in the hell are you doing with your car?!?!?!?!?! always buying intercoolers, turbos, ems, etc.? i thought you were going to sell it at one point.

or just do what I did and get a reducer....honestly I didn't feel any difference beween open turbo inlet and the injen intake on there with a reducer coupler when I had the gt28

haha well, it never ends :D Just recently the water pump went out, so I had that replaced along with the thermostat, then it still overheated so I took it back to the shop and they took off the head (which they said wasn't torqued down all the way like it should have been), had it pressure checked and the head is good (thank God), and just needed a new head gasket. Sooo.. while everything was apart, I bought a MAM mani and decided to try the GT28RS turbo. I just failed to think of the intake before today (eek2) So for now, I guess I'm done.. we will see though. I don't wanna go too far all out again, but just enough to keep me satisfied, if at all possible (wink)

did you install the manifold yet?

also what are you using as engine management. i know you had/have the unichip. i know you were looking at haltech. microtech as well?

Manifold will go in tomorrow at the shop, if it already hasn't today.. it's hopefully going to be done by tomorrow. Not using any engine management yet, probably will go back with a Unichip later on. I sold it, then got the damn modding urge again after finding that MAM manifold. I have hardpipes right now, well.. at least just the SLS hot pipe, have a turbohoses hard pipe w/ HKS flange that I plan to install again when they're done with my car. Still have the stock exhaust and smic though and I'm just planning to drive normal, it's kinda pointless in my opinion to have the stuff I do with a GT28RS, but what the heck. If anything, I'm planning to find an aftermarket bpv and maybe get that flange adapter thing from eBay to put a TurboXS RFL on the HKS flange. When I get the chance or see a deal on a FMIC, I'll have that and from there I'm sure it will begin again.
