GT worth the extra cost? Having a hard time justifying it

Nav is mediocre, but I still use it and it always gets me where I'm going, although I don't use voice command.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

Ill let you know what I pick up, but Im back to leaning towards the GT! (cheers)

I did drive a loaded Santa Fe Sport however, and it drove much better than I expected.

It should be better, it costs more comparably equipped. Sure looks nice for those needing something a bit bigger (mid-sized).

the santa fe sells for considerably under invoice, even before haggling.
the out the door price for the Santa Fe 2.4 loaded w/ tech package is only $500 more than the CX-5 GT w/ tech @ invoice.

It has some real nice features the CX-5 doesnt, like an 8" screen and in-cabin tech, much nicer interior, heated steering wheel but lacks the adaptive headlights, blind spot monitoring, and smart brakes which I like about the CX-5 (And the salesman said it doesnt even have integrated pandora? need to check on that)

Of course they are also different sizes of vehicles. I hate big SUVs, and Id prefer the CX-5 but with a 9 month old and 2 dogs, I just wonder if the CX-5 will be big enough. The carseat was surprisingly a real tight fit.

I can see why the extra room of the Santa Fe would be useful, although leaving the dogs at home would reduce space needed and dirt in car.

And also not procreating would have given you the chance to get a smaller car and many many more bucks in your wallet! (lol2)(lol2)

I agree, but is necessary a couple times a year on trips and such, even if its just taking them to the kennel. What Im trying to avoid is having to drive a big lumbering SUV 51 weeks a year that I really only need the extra size for 1 week a year, which is why the CX-5 is winning the battle in my mind :P

Obviously I was joking, but not at all: I have two teenager daughters! (smash)

Agreed, the 9 month old kid needs to be riding in a top safety pick SUV, either the CX-5 or new Santa Fe (thumbsup).

You have to consider that the CX-5 invoice is heavily inflated....to make the MSRP look like a better deal. If you follow the CX-5 pricing thread, the GT w/ tech goes for ~$28K. The dealer's are making money at that price. I'm sure because it took little to no work to get an offer like that from a good dealer.

From a pure money:equipment proposition, the CX-5 didn't become attractive to me until you go with the GT w/ tech. The adaptive headlights are a +$1k option on every luxury make. The smart key technology was what put it over the top for us. Why have push button start, if you have to get your car out to unlock the vehicle? If the Touring w/ tech had smart key, I'm sure we would have got Touring.

If you like the blind-spot and back-up camera and headlights, I think the CX-5 is one of the few vehicles in the entire market (Car, truck, suv) that has a combination like that at it's price. If leather/19" inch wheels/dual-zone/smart-key don't do it for you...there is nothing wrong with just Touring. After all, a major factor in picking the CX-5 is the feel behind the steering wheel, REAL 32 mpg that you don't have to push a ECON button to get, and looks. The market is so competitive, you really get a decent package no matter which one you buy.

This is nothing like the German lux market....where a fully optioned compact sedan will cost over $50K out the door and cost almost that much in maintenance through it's period of ownership.

edit: I really would have liked to considered the hyundai before buying CX-5, but wife would never buy a hyundai. I like the value of both the santa fe and the CX-5.

I ended up putting on a hitch for towing a small trailer (Home Depot runs) and to add a cargo box for family trips. This adds a 15 cubic foot trunk for the times when I need more interior space.

Based on the original post, I would say there is no way you should spend the extra on the GT. You pretty much said that almost none of the features are important to you, so why pay all that extra for heated seats and doors that unlock themselves? How cold is it in VA anyway? Bear in mind that I live in VT, so anything above freezing is cause to leave the heavy coats at home.

Personally I would find the proximity door unlock to be unsettling. I'm a bit OCD and would constantly be leaving the key fob indoors and going out to check that the doors really are locked. (eek2)

It beeps when it lock, if it doesn't beep, it didn't lock, so I either go press the button or lock from key fob. I'm OCD too, but I rather have this feature than not. It's nice to take my son out of his car seat & close the door, listen for the confirmation beeps & know my doors are locked.

Are you 100% sure it will absolutely always actually lock when it beeps? If there is a malfunction it could beep without locking, so the only sure way to tell is to check the handle ... if it will not open it back up LOL (lol)

Yeah, I'm OCD too!

Well that's good then. The Touring that I have only flashes the marker lights when locking/unlocking. This is the first car I've ever had that doesn't make a beep noise.

Come to think of it, I bet if I checked that there is a way to make it do that. My plan is to browse the manual tomorrow at work. :D

Press the lock button on the remote twice in succession, then it will beep the horn lightly.
Same as some other cars.

Yes and thanks, it does that, but I would like a double 'chirp' every time it unlocks and a single chirp when it locks. That is what most cars do.

Yeah, I'm OCD too!
It beeps when you are walking away & once you pass the front if the car, it beeps again, locks & flashes the parking/signal lights.

well apparently I didnt do a good enough of a job talking myself out of the GT!
this followed me home today

I still dont think the GT is necessarily "worth it" for my personal purposes, but I made the call anyway to get the higher trim. A bit of an emotional decision vs logical which is out of character for this engineer but screw it (drunk)

Ill clean it up and post another pic. The detailing staff was off today since the dealership wasnt 'officially' open.
