Greddy catback exhaust

I have Greddy catback on my P5. It is a little bit too loud for me. Do you guys have any idea how to make the exhaust quiter? I check out the downpipe and it has two silencer already in there. Is it possible I change the silencer to a bigger one to make it quiter? I have no clue (dunno). Any idea guys? Thanks ahead

the downpipe? i don't follow... you mean the piping after the second cat? if there are two resonators there already, and the greddy is the sp2 with a real muffler, then the only thing i can tell you to do to quiet it down is to go back to stock.

Sorry for the confusion. I think the piping after the first cat. There are some resenator there. I attach the pic of the exhaust.

The only thing I can think of for the GreddyEvo cat-back exhaust, is for you too get another additional resonator welded in and have a machine shop make you a custom silencer to bolt-on to the huge Greddy tip. But that sounds like too much work to just silence the exhaust.

BTW.. I thought Greddy exhaust are supposed to be quiet already? More quiet than most exhaust on the market.

Yeach, I donno why it is soo loud in my car. Maybe I used to the sound of the Mazdaspeed muffler before I changed to Greddy. I might just stop by the muffler shop and check out what they can do for me. If it is too pricy, forget about it. Just turn the soundsystem loud :)

i have an idea,....................................................sell it to me! lol

that greddy exhaust is MUCH quieter than the mazdaspeed one. make sure you don't have an exhaust leak somewhere. the greddy evo exhaust has that one tiny resonator, but that is all. it should give a nice mellow tone. check for any exhaust leaks upstream... if that still doesn't do it, then it's time to get another exhaust like the racing beat, or go back to stock.

did you make sure everything is tightened? you don't have an exhaust leak anywhere do ya?

The GReddy EVO catbacks aren't the quietest exhaust GReddy offers. The street performance systems(SP and SP2) are the systems that were designed to be quieter and be more for street use. The Evolution catbacks are the next level up so to speak and have a louder exhaust note. I've never heard the Mazdaspeed exhaust on the protege5, so I can't compare, but generally the EVO catbacks are louder then some of the other systems offered by GReddy...

On my personal vehicle, I'm running 4-2-1 headers, stock main cat and a custom catback and the car sounds very deep and throaty, not one bit raspy which is how I like it. Your local exhaust shop should be able to get the system quieter for you.

Well, I went to muffler shop today. Right now, my pipe is 2.5' and there are two resenator there. The only thing they can do is change one of the resinator to 2' internal pipe so it will make the exhaust quiter, but they can't guarantee the result. I asked how much for the labor and part. Using stainless steel magnaflow resinator, part and labor will be $225 (boom01). I was shocked for a moment then I decided to leave.

I think it is not worthied for $225 to just make the exhaust quiter. So, my option here is switch back to stock pipe, but I don't have my stock pipe. Any idea how much does the stock pipe cost? If I change to my stock pipe then I will sell my Greddy catback. Still confused right now, keep the exhaust or change to stock (confused)

what! sellin the Greddy! i love my Greddy Evo cat back. sounds simply awesome. oh man did i get a hard-on listening to it when the shop started my car up with it on for the first time. also had some of my friends drive around the parking lot just so i could hear it from the outside, man did i have a grin on my face :). cant imagine someone sellin one. oh well, to each his own i guess.

only thing i dont like is the constant drone at highway speeds, but thats the price u pay for any performance exhuast system.

So you feel the same thing with me then. The constant drone at highway speeds, it is kind of loud right? But, when you rev it more than 4,000 rpm, that thing sounds so good.

Yeach, I was talking to my friends and all of them suggest me to keep the exhaust. I might just keep the exhaust so my friends will not beat me up for not listening to them :p

thats cool

i just turn up the stereo to drown out the exhaust at highway speeds. or u can roll the windows down.

They redesigned it to make it quieter!!

Please just contact every retailer of exhaust systems you can think of, and they will in turn start bugging Greddy to get these shipped and ready for us to buy!! Thank you!

***edited because people whined about me trying to help get a new product to the US. Even though it will help the MSP's and other Protege's more than almost any other performance modification.***

I also explained that our exhaust system is very restrictive, and we can make big power gains by replacing it. Since we have the turbo, we benefit from a free flowing exhaust system like they produce.
our Protege5's are not turbo :)

I've posted this before on another thread where someone was saying their exhaust was too loud... Get a Universal Silencer to fit in the tip, I have a HKS Dragger, very close to the Greddy in style...had the same problem, nice in the lower rpm's but on the highway...gawd! needed ear plugs. So I found a silencer with a 4" o.d. and stuck it in the tip, drilled a very tiny hole in the underside of the tip for the bolt and done...It's soo much quieter now, actually enjoyable on the highway. Silencer cost me $20cdn....
Before everone starts in about how restrictive it's going to make it and how much power you'l loose...it's a protege5 people..say no more.

Well, my car is a turbo, so we are the ones that benefit most from the exhaust upgrade. I don't know how many times I have to explain to people that Greddy used my car to prototype 2 new exhaust systems, and they are NOT available in the US yet. People keep telling me you can already get these exhausts. You may be able to get one setup that they originally came out with. That one is too loud, however, and has been redesigned with a better design. I spoke to the man in charge of the project himself. Charles @ Greddy. I just posted the info in the P5 thread as well because it will still fit your car. It just doesn't have the same power gains as the turbo cars will see. Thanks!

dude, this thread is old... only reason it resurfaced was because nictlg7 posted his spam in it... let it die pleeeeeaaaase!!!

btw Greddy Evo exhause still gives me hard-ons :P
