Great deals on winter tires...

I know there have been tons and tons of posts regarding winter tires but I figured I might as well post these hot deals so somebody else could save some pennies. Anyways, I have been price shopping for winter tires and rims and noticed that local prices from Goodyear and Town Fair Tire have been astonomical.

Ultra Grip G2 and rims from Goodyear $752
Michilin Artic Alpin from Goodyear $699
Toyo Winter Grip from Town Fair $659

All in all, I felt these prices were too high so I found a site www.discounttiredirect.com. Not only were prices were rock bottom, but they were offering free 2-3 business day shipping!

Michilin Artic Alpin was $529 with a $40 rebate.
Yokohama Ice Guard was $541
Semperit's were $481

By the way, all those prices included rims. Anyways, I know Chico2003 and others were still looking for a hot deal. In my opinion, you can't beat this.

Oh yeah, from my research and what the salesman said, I went with the Yokohama's. New technology unlike the Artic Alpin.

Tirerack.com has some terrific service as well- I bought a set of snows for my wife's Focus SVT last winter and they showed up quick, in great shape and ready to bolt right on.

The Michelin Arctic Alpin is a very good tire in the 17 inch size, still affords a good level of dry grip and fairly sporty performance while providing great snow traction.

Right as I was purchasing, I was told 15" rims would not be abvisable. Obviously, from the forums, I know everyone and their mothers are using 15" rims on the MSP. When I called Mazda, they the service guy told me to be VERY careful using a universal rim sice most of the time, those rims sit strictly on the lug bolts and not on part of the (not sure of the name) but metal grove on the brake area. Any opinions? I was just going to use 15" steel rims but dont want a just a universal rim shoved on the car for safety reason.s

been using 15" steelies for years now, and no problems whatsoever. long trips included.

I got the same "error" message also. Just call them and use Jake, he was great. Extension 271 goes right to his desk. I looked at the stats and they were VERY good...and at 45 a tire you can't beat it.

I have the Semperits in a 205/55/16 from www.Tires.com (same company as www.discounttiredirect.com ). Great in the dry & wet, no "real" snow experience yet, and at ~ $70 each a real bargain, esp. for t-rated snows. Mount to P5 or ES rims and the package coimes in at about that other sites are charging.

The Winterforce tires are older-school in the rubber compound arena, but will work well in "real" snow (deep, slushy, and packable stuff), just perhaps not as well on ice as the Michelin AA's or others... but they'll be loads better than any all-seasons in most winter (icy/snow) conditions, and probably as good as any other snow in real snow (just look at that tread pattern - looks like a rally car mud tire!).

Oh - and this bears repeating:

DO NOT DRIVE ON THE STOCK MSP TIRES IN SNOW. PERIOD. Unless you want all the directional control of a moving hockey puck...

exactly ping, the moderators are on crack.

Tires:
Yea they look good, especially for 44 bucks a tire. I couldn't resist. You can't beat 408 for EVERYTHING.
