Hi, For a 2017 GT, I'm looking for an explanation of the routing options / types (FAST, SHORT, ECONOMICAL and EASY) in the NAV settings. Safe guess is economical avoids toll, but would like to see a detailed explanation for all. Also what is the factory default?

Thanks

Presumably

Fast: get there soonest
Short: shortest distance traveled
Economical: avoid tolls (good mileage?)
Easy: few maneuvers

From the online Navigation Owners Manual.

4.1.2 Route calculation and recalculation
The navigation system calculates the route based on your preferences:
Route planning methods:
FAST : Gives a quick route if you can travel at or near the speed limit
on all roads.
SHORT : Gives a route that has the smallest total distance of all possible
routes.
ECONOMICAL : This method combines the merits of the Fast and Short
routes: The navigation system makes a calculation for the Fast route,
but it also includes other roads in the calculation in consideration of fuel
economy.
EASY : Results in a route with fewer turns and no difficult maneuvers.
With this option, you can make the navigation system take, for example,
the highway/freeway instead of a series of smaller roads or streets.

I don't know if there is a default. It seems to stay on whatever method was chosen last, until changed.

after 2 years of driving exhaustively using this Nav system in mostly semi-urban to heavily urban areas:

1. Default seems to be FAST. Usually matches up with EASY if longer than 30 min. travel and where highway is involved.
2. SHORT is best for short distances. Within your home area, for example: running to a store, etc., etc.
3. Economical: Did not find much use for it but when it works it works really, really well. Other time - same as FAST or EASY. But I usually have it in ECONOMICAL.

Tolls: this is where it gets a bit stupid. If you have it on then always it attempts to use it even if there's a parallel road equally good. For example - in NJ - for a lengthy stretch I-295 and NJ Turnpike run parallel but this will always suggest Turnpike. I use avoid specific roads repeatedly to make it switch.

Well, based on my own experience, short is not the fastest and fast is not the shortest.
The calculations are based on speed limit at different routes, streets. The short one may take you to streets with traffic lights and lot of traffic, going from shortest to slowest.
