GP Light Weight Protege pulleys

lol, someone's points for this year's NBA pool. I am holding a slim one point lead at the moment over two people... need the pistons to win tonight. :)

I dont know why but I saw those before the pullies. lol If Brach/Medieval redesigns the PS pulley hopefully he will send out replacements for the Orig PS pulley group. Luckly I haven't installed mine yet.

Nah, it's probably just the lousy install that these clowns are doing.

AMIRITE?

OK that's just screwed up. How the hell is the Medieval pulley almost a third thicker then the stock one? Did he base himself off of the wrong pulley??? There isn't even the same amount of grooves...

That isn't the stock pulley on the left, it's my stock belt. You can see that the top groove on the belt lines up with it's corresponding groove on the pulley, but by the bottom ones, it is one half-groove width off.

I can take a shot of it next to the stock pulley, but it shows the exact same thing so there is no point really.

I was looking at it as the "pulley" on the left was the belt.

Didn't even think about the fact that it could be something else then the pulley...man do I fell stupid (where's the foot in mouth emoticon when you need it? :D)

But ya, that definitely shows the design flaw...

haha, don't worry about it... my fault anyway for not specifying. (rei)

Has every pulley been confirmed to be like this?

No.

A couple of people have posted about it so far in this thread, but others seemed to have no problem.

You guys that haven't installed them yet should check them against a belt and post up any results. Would be nice to see some pics of one that lines up properly.

My PS pulley is from the original group. It is nowhere near being off like the pic above. It's been on the car, they(wp,alt,ps) have been on the car for least a coupla months with no issues. I did not press the ps pulley on, I pulled it on with a bolt in the center of the shaft some washers & a 12mm socket/wratchet. Interested in swapout if there are design concerns about structural integrity tho.

I am willing bet money your grooves are exactly as pictured.

There has been no redesign(that I know of)...and since its CNC cut...Its a program....So unless the program has been changed..they are ALL like that one.

I have one here and a belt..I will snap a pic in a minute and post it up in a bit.

Mine isn't nearly THAT bad...using gatorbacks...uploading pix now...

I also checked the alt/WP pulleys, and they are almost perfect (could be SLIGHTLY better, but that would be hard...)

Pardon the quality, my P&S can't focus for s*** on stuff up close.

If it was like that pic back further up, it wouldn't stay on. Half of the belt in the pic wouldn't be near being in the grooves. The revision I'm primarily concerned about is where the spokes broke on that other guy's after a couple of months. I'm not defending anything or implying people don't have fit issues. I'm simply reporting how the ones I got from what batch fit & have been performing. Yeah, CNC concept of repitition no mystery. Doesn't mean program wasn't tweaked along the way or that the mechanical aspects of the machine are perfect either. Not really likin the alt pulley pic either but haven't seen update on install issue or not.

I tightened the belt down to normal tension, it was kinda cupped in the middle and raised on both sides. Fired up the car and it threw the belt immediately. So to keep it on there, I had to tighten it down way tighter.

The pic I posted with the pulley and belt is my pulley that broke... same guy for both. (confused)

The alt pulley was installed properly.

OK, yes same as what I said-that in the pic wouldn't stay on. So, do you think the extra torque to force the belt into submission played part in spokes breaking? Seems I have nothing to worry about since mine functions as normal without extra belt tightening & no cuppage. Oh, my apologies for not recalling you were pic poster. Was more concerned with content vs. who posted it. Here's pic before belt on.............http://www.msprotege.com/members/i12drivemyMP5/100_1222.jpg

Make that pretty much 5 months of use - pic is from 1/5/08

Yes, that is the general consensus. Belt tightened because of groove problem, driven for a few months, pulley broke.
