got pulled over. help !!!!!!!

for 15 mph over you don't get warnings, now if it was 5 or 7 then maybe you would get a warning.

He did do you a favor if your defensive driving laws are like ours because you can't take defensive driving to get a ticket dismissed if you got ticketed over 15 mph over the speed limit. 40 in 25 = still can take def driving. On the other hand, find a traffic lawyer, pay them 50-100 to reschedule the court date into oblivion and see if cop is no show, if not then ticket is dismissed. NEVER pay a ticket you don't have to then you don't keep paying for it for 39 more months in higher insurance until it falls from your record. Not bragging or nothing, but I have had enough tickets in my 31 years of driving to know the ins & outs of these things. Of course I live in a big city so it's easier to get these things to play out in your favor. Good luck, just take the at home def driving over the internet & get 10% discount on your insurance. Hope this helps.........

143 bucks?!?!

well i was accused of street racing, and speeding at the same time. I said i wasn't street racing but i was driving fast. i admitted i did 80mph in a 55 and the ticket was 104 bucks with no points.

ionno, i got lucky maybe but 143 bucks for that? sheesh.

i paid $175 for a cracked windshield. you guys are lucky.

I've gotten my arse handed to me in another ticket thread because I'm all about absurd humor and 'takin it to the next level' as my friends say. I'll be the first to admit I go over the top with comments sometimes. Still I have to say the only time a Police was ever useful to me was... Never. When I was a little kid my mom used to get the s*** beat out of her by a drunk red stepdad. I got thrown across rooms a few times, into drywall. And they never did a damned thing, so I don't want to hear anyone going on about how police are 'bad until you need their help' for this or that, because they have never been of any assistance to me. Beyond that my interactions have been for speeding tickets, including getting a ticket for illegal lane change after I was forced to the OTHER side of the road by a state trooper in a 'Fear This' skull cap and Oakley's he never took off. That's just a LITTLE bit unprofessional. Therefore, I have no compunctions about saying:

"F the police. F F F the police."(protest)

Oh, Knowledge, I think 'tread' is how eastern Europeans/Dutch (colonies in Africa) pronounce 'thread'. I've corresponded with a Dutchman on another board before pretty extensively and we had a running gag of starting threads like, "The Take Your Best Shot Photography Tread," and sometimes we'd interchange that with, "Treat." I think it has to do with how it's pronounced by non-native english speakers... Just a shot in the dark.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but.... I've read numerous stories here about beating this car and that car on the streets, which presumably can only be accomplished by speeding (probably not from a lot of the posters here), but then when someone writes in asking for help and then expressing frustration (probably not in the most constructive way) with getting a ticket for going 40 in a 25, which is not unreasonable considering he did not know the area, everyone jumps all over him. It's not like he said he was purposely speeding or was going 90 mph on the freeway. Again, it is also not the cops fault, but sometimes I think out of state or out of town people get the shaft with changing speed limits and lack of signage, esp. at night. And the cops know this, that out-of-staters will not bother to dispute it due to cost of travel, etc. He is lucky though if no points are assessed because in WI we get a fine and points. Going to court may reduce points, but they will never reduce your fine. Anyone in Illinois driving through WI knows to watch out for state troopers here, they are practically on every overpass/hill, etc. And for the record, I've only received one speeding ticket ever, and I knew I deserved it, although I was still pissed.

I think you missed our collective point.

We weren't jumping him because he was speeding. (I am sure that most of here have done it from time to time if not every day!)

We were jumping him because he was angry with the cop for his own mistake to the point of insulting the officer multiple times very strongly.

I have got speeding tickets and I was pissed too....at myself, or just in general, but never at the cop.

go to court. You can usually get it on parole. You talk to the district attorney and you pay the fine. But it doesn't go on your record. If you don't have any moving violations within a year, it will get dropped completely.

12. Will I get "points" on my driver's license?

If you make your payment in full and your case disposes at the Centralized Infractions Bureau, no points will be assessed by the Department of Motor Vehicles against your driver's license, however it will appear on your driving history.
Points are only given if there is a conviction (a finding of guilty) or a bond forfeiture, after a court hearing.
Points are assessed by the Connecticut DMV. For more information about the Connecticut DMV, call Driver Services at 860-263-5720 for general information or visit the DMV website at http://www.ct.gov/dmv/.

thx camrycev6 , i got the information that i needed. but on a note, you're right , i should be mad at myself, because of what i did. But i can't blame my self for being mad at the cop bcuz. noones perfect and everyone knows that all of us go over the speedlimit once in awhile, specially with a car like this.

so in regards, like i said, i was pissed at the cop for not taking in consideration to give me a warning since this is perhaps my very first ticket ever. not like i was speeding 90 on an expressway, If in fact that ive violated the state somany times an has alot of tickets in my life, then theres no reason for any warnings at all ;-) Just a thought bcuz im not in the area to begin with.

Cuz in all conscience , if i was a cop and pulled over a guy for a mere speeding , this guy dont even live in this state and he has a perfect record for a long time, i think he deserves a second chance, thats alll!

Not sure if they do it there but you can try to use your prayer for judgment. It will make the ticket act like it never happened, but in return you have to not get any kind of ticket for 3 years. If you do get a ticket with in the 3 years you get hit with both full force.

Also most of the time your first offense will be dropped down to like 5 or 9 over and you will not receive any points. With you being out of state you can come to your court case, but you can also mail your payment to the clerk of court and be done with it. Hiring a lawyer for 15 over and for rules that have been posted on here I wouldn't even waste my time with a lawyer. Paying someone $2-300 to come on your behalf is pointless really.

i AM from nj, i was just visiting my in laws in connecticut for the first time.
I am in deed hoped that the cop can at least realize that i am not from around the area and the least he could have done is givin me a break an give me a warning instead. thats probably the reason why i thought to myself he was a jerk. ya know ?
if you're not from the area then shouldn't you be driving slower and more cautiously? imho he gave you a huge break by taking off that 1mph. also for some insurance companies the cutoff between a "minor" incident and a "major" incident is 15mph. 15mph over or less and it's a minor, 16mph and over is a major. premium adjustments occur proportionately. while it was only $30 on the ticket it could be much more in the long run

as far as whether it gives you points or not what people have been quoting from the CT DMV i believe is inaccurate. you will not be assessed points in CT is all that site is saying but you are not licensed in CT so that has little meaning. CT's point system doesn't carry a ton of weight like it does in other states. however, if the CT DMV reports to your state's DMV its incidents then you're at the mercy of the NJ DMV. not all states report to eachother though so the NJ DMV may never find out about it. when your insurance company pulls your DMV record they pull from the state you are insured in so if CT does not report to NJ your insurance will never know about it either. it's all about the relationship between the NJ DMV and the CT DMV. the best way to find out is to call your DMV and ask or browse your DMV's web site and hope it's not useless like most govt websites are

thx for that info jred321, i will look into that dmv stuff.

i can also note that i don't have any problem at all for paying the ticket. Also i will not get a lawyer for something that i really did. and the way i see it, i thx the cop for taking off that 1 mph and rounding it off. But like i said, WE all want more, if he gave me 10mph instead of 15, then i will really see hes doin me a favor.

ps . for the record, i was really pissed because my in laws got out of the house and saw me outside the street. did i mention i was 2 houses away from home ? ;-(

Damn the must have HUGE ass lots to be still going 40mph when your 2 houses away from your stop! (ughdance)

the house was on the side of the road. he clocked me couple blocks back, but when i pulled over, the house was there already, get my point ?

Take the ticket like a man and move on. You might get lucky if you go to court and your cop doesn't show up.

Yea, first time, i must be lucky all these years ever since i started drivin at 18 yrs old.

ANYWAYS guys, for anyone that replied, i did pay the ticket already and i will now move on. hopefully this will teach me a lesson to watch out more for the cops, and also drive safe.
:-)
