GOING TO BEAR, NEED HELP deciding SNOW CHAINs or Cables

I drove half way up Big Bear Mtn with a new set of tire cables ... SCC Z329s (215/45/18) http://www.vulcantire.com/cgi-bin/chainsearch.cgi?size=215/45-18&model=SZ329&f=chainsgz_c.htm I think they were called and the mf things did not fit my tires! I couldn't get the last attachement to close .... so back down the mountain i went. Boo. i went to back to pep boys and they suggested that i try a slightly larger cable (235/45/18) SCC Z339s ... i put em on in the parking lot and they were wayy too big.
So I've got some on order from VulcanTire.com http://www.vulcantire.com/cgi-bin/chainsearch.cgi?size=215/45-18&model=SZ129&f=chainz6_c.htm ... SCC Z-6 SZ129 ($70) great for low clearance according to the site - they should be in today, but if these don't fit, I'm going to flip out.
I want Z Cables -- which is diagonal pattern as opposed to the ones that go straight accross. Third set of tire cables (nice ones too) and the don't fit. There should be enough slack around the tire to apply the tightners too -- I'm pretty sure that if I got the last fastner on, there wouldn't be a need for tightners.
Pretty please... if anyone already has some and they FIT ... could you tell me what model number they are so I can go buy them. I don't care how much they cost... this is killing me!
