Going HUless, should I use a preamp?

there's plenty of lossless compression methods out there as well. MIght be able to cut your filesizes inhalf atleast. ALso, why just 60gigs? I've had a fullsized 160gb drive in mine from the start. 10gig partition for OS and programs, 100 for music, and the rest is actually just backup files, etc from my other computers.

I was just browsing the mp3car.com prefab box options at the time and 60gb was the default (for a 2.5" drive). But yeah, if you have the space for a 3.5" drive then go as large as you can afford. Multiple drives probably isn't a good option if you're trying to keep the power consumption down (so you can use a DC-DC converter instead of an inverter).

Yea, big no no on inverters, they throw allkinds of noise into your system. DC/DC PSU's are without a doubt the way to go. They also take care of your startup/ shutdown as well. As for drives, you can get 200gig 2.5" drives fairly easily as well, I guess it just all depends on where you get it from if prefabbed.

Take a 60gb drive and dedicate 10gb for random stuff including the OS. With 50gb I can store about 75-80 650mb CDs. That's about 50% of my music collection I could have in my car at any given time. That's much better than the 20 or so CDs I lug around and shuffle between now.
(thumb) you have no Idea how nice it is to have your entire cd collection at your fingertips... I'll never go back to fumbling with CD's. Right now I'm running a Kenwood Music Keg with over 140 cd's loaded to it, def not a carputer though. My user interface to the Keg kinda bloes, if I want to go from disk 1 to disk 70, I have to push the next disk button 69 times (then I'm rewarded by a sexy voice to tell me the Artist and Album)... I want more, I'm addicted to gadgets.
