GM Synchromesh + Oil Change Tomorrow

A lot of DSM owners speak highly of GM's Syncromesh MT fluid, so I went out and bought some from the local Chevy dealership. This tranny fluid cost as much as four qts of Royal Purple Racing 21 + a Wix oil filter, so it better be damn good.

Anyway, my car's going back to Mazda in the morning to switch out my bad CV axle, so I'm going to have them throw this stuff in there while they're at it instead of the OEM stuff. I'll report any differences when I get back.

Syncromesh is very very good. Probably better than redline. I have friends that use it in high horsepower cars and have nothing but good things to say about it. Good choice:)

Very nice to hear and have some reassurance. Cool.. I'll letcha know if it's that great with our trannies tomorrow. :D

Nice car, btw.

The dealership is going to install the new fluid tomorrow after they replace my driver's side CV axle, since they have to drain the fluid anyway. Do I need to have them flush the system out or anything before installing the GM stuff?

No need to have it flushed, just drain and add the new stuff. You might think about changing the tranny fluid a little prematurely (after say 5k miles) after the switch if you are concerned.

How often should I change it after the initial install? Thanks for the help, btw.

It really depends on how hard you drive. For example the Factory Service manual (for most cars) calls for changing it between every 25-50k miles. However, I probably change mine after every 2 oil changes (change my oil every 2-3k miles). But, then again I really drive the piss out of my car, that is WHEN I drive it..lol

I don't know how hard you drive so it's hard to say. Somewhere in between me and the FSM would probably suffice.
