Glove Compartment Removal

Has anyone removed the glove compartment in their CX-7?

Seems easy enough... but the dampener feels fragile; I don't want to break it.

Where does the dampener detach? At the bottom or at the top? Can anyone describe how it comes off?

By the way, I'm hoping to remove the glove compartment to install an Audio Link for my iPod. I've read that I should be able to reach behind the radio and plug it in.

Thanks, guys!

no need to remove it. You have enough room to reach in when the glove box is open to pass wires to the radio unit, when you take the radio unit off.

Thanks for the reply, gosensei.

I'm hoping to install the Audio Link without removing the central bezel and radio. I'd like to install its plug by simply removing the glove compartment and reaching behind.

Seems impossible. you can try. Removing the center console is not that hard. Follows the how-to, you can get it done in couple minutes.

It is not possible. I have tried, glove box removed no room for very small hands, must remove head unit.

After you remove the head unit, can you check whether you can route a cable from the driver side through the head unit area to the glove compartment? I'd like to route a video cable from the kick panel on the driver side to the glove compartment. Thx.

the damper is very fragile. i broke mine on the first full day of ownership. it's only a $10 part, although it must be ordered. ended up getting it from showcase mazda for $12.50 shipped.

my lesson learned is that the damper must be unhooked from the glove box with care, with the glovebox almost closed.
