Glove compartment rattle?!

Anyone else getting a rattle from their glove compartment box? When i hold my hand up to the compartment, it goes away so its definitely something to do with the hinge and how the compartment comes up. Just wondering if anyone else had problems? also anyone ever get sound from the armrest? could be just my stuff inside me going psycho.

i had a rattle i thought was coming from the glovebox too. i even held my hand to it and then it stopped just like you. what i failed to realize is that while putting my hand up to it my forearm was on the center counsel where the rattle was actually coming from. if you look at the center counsel right above the passenger side floor you will see a seam there where 2 pieces of the counsel meet and that is where my rattle was from.

i just pulled the front piece off and put some of that door edging stuff on all the piece that i could see would cause a rattle. i dont know the exact stuff i bought but its basically an adhesive backed felt. then i put the piece back back on and the rattle was gone

Same rattle here, I can put just one finger on the glovebox lock and it goes away. Actually, since it's hot outside now, I haven't heard it in a while. In the winter, it was annoying, but I'll fix it this time.

I noticed how crappy that seam design is when I installed the short shifter and bushings, I laid a bead of clear silicone along the leading edge to avoid future problems.

lol i had the same problem i wanted kick my glove compartment. This is how you fix it. Go to Home Deput and get little rubber bumpers. Find the right size and the noise would be gone. I only used 4 in the right places.

I got this from another forum.

"I too was getting irritated w/ the glove box rattling, and I believe my recent fix for it worked. Or..at least for the time being since I just did it two days ago. So far so good...

Basically, I was applying felt pads to the inside walls of my center console so that when the console lids close, they sit flush against the felt and stop the lids from moving/squeaking when going over bumps.

Anyway, I was using black adhesive felt furniture pads. Since they're so thick, I used a knife and trimmed about half of the felt thickness away and applied to the center console walls where the lid strikes. I had some extra felt pads left, and I figured I'd try to fix the glove box squeak/rattle as well.

I got the felt pads at Lowes. They are like these, but black:

I noticed that when going over bumps, if you press the glove box tight against the dash, the squeaking stops. I applied the black felt furniture pads at the top of the glove box where the rubber feet on the door/lid meet against the dash. See below:

(note: not my actual glove box..just using as an example to show where I placed the felt pads)

If you use the felt pads I used, it's extremely important to use a knife and cut about half of the felt thickness off. Otherwise, the felt pads will be too thick, and your glove box will open when you hit a bump. Also, since the felt pads are fairly large, I cut them to my desired size using scissors. Another thing to note- I kept my glove box locked for 24 hours after applying the felt pads...so that the rubber feet could create an indentation in the felt..again...to avoid the glove box from opening when hitting bumps. I unlocked the glove box yesterday and it's been great since. The end result is that the rubber feet do not have room to move around..thus eliminating the squeaking/rattling."

see my glove compartment doesn't rattle but my center console/arm rest has a creaking noise mostly in humid weather. it creaks when you go over bumps slowly and going up/down angled inclines. I really don't like it.

I got this from another forum as well so don't give me any credit.

This center console box lid rattle is the easiest to fix!! Just get some sticky felt pads at home depot, like the kind you put on cupboard doors, and put them on both lids of the center console where it rubs. The idea is to remove the left-right play in the lid.

The pads you are after are like 99 cents for a pack, over in the hardware section of Home Depot:

Then the bottom lid needs left/right play removed, add the pads as shown here:

The placement for the pads on the box needs to be right so that when you close the middle lid, the pads touch the lid. Mazda placed a piece of felt on the spot that touches, just not quite enough... its the right spot though, so it will help you aim to place your pads.

Finally, the top lid needs some help too:

If two pads is too many, just do one side. I wish the pads were black, but hey, I'd rather have it not rattle, and who looks inside the console but me. Maybe a black sharpie could solve that?

actually it's not rattling it's more of a creaking sound and I don't think it's either the center console lid or cup holder lid. it seems to only do it at low speeds.
