Give this guy a medal.

I'm sure that someone told them what they were doing is illegal. Either way, ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law. Go ahead and do 95 through a neighborhood, when you get pulled over tell the cop you hadn't seen the speed limit signs and didn't know any better. I'm sure he will calmly explain and then let you go.

Also, im sure this is a law in 98% of other countries on the planet, including Mexico.

it's a simple law. you cannot have it above the U.S. flag. Why is that so hard to follow? IF you live in the US you have to follow the rules. legal or not, period.

Right, ignorance is not a valid defense. But if you are doing 95 through a neighborhood and someone is offended, they aren't allowed to slash your tires. There are proper ways to handle things.

And now that i read some more. how did you NOT know? it's told to everyone in government class in grade school, and stapled in american government clases if you went to college...there is also the small fact that NOONE ever flies other flags higher than the American one...that might have been a small clue....oh and during nationals anthems, incase you were too busy eating your food, the other flags are lowered vs. the american flag.

You know, I did'nt know it was illegal to make a left turn into the far lane either until I got a ticket, but I did'nt go complaining that it was unconstitutional. That place is lucky that that's all that happened to them

And for the record , if any of you are a little more into historical knowledge, The Texas flag at Austin , at the state capital is the only other flag in the country that is the same height as the US flag, they used a loophole from a long time ago to be allowed to even raise thier flag to the SAME height as the US flag...

and for you, "omg i'm hispanic, WHYY USS" people, I'm Hispanic, and not born in the US.

and no that guy does'nt deserve a medal. he could have done it more professionally, but if they HAD given the resturant several warnings, then yes that action should have been taken.

+1 That I can agree with...

True. In my neighborhood though if you're going way to fast you can expect a frozen tennis ball to get friendly with your car. Just one of those ways the people keep each other in check. Not the best way to do things but it works.

For those of you who are defending what he did because "what the business owners did is illegal":

He just stole that American flag from them...while carrying/brandishing a big-ass knife...

...just sayin'

I think that may be a technicality. They were mistreating it, so he probably does have the right as a citizen to save the flag. Even though it is stealing he would never get convicted.

How high one flag is hung vs. another is also a "technicality," as are the rest of our laws. If so many people are so pissed off that the Mexicans were breaking the law, they should be just as pissed at the dude for vandalism/armed theft. If you want to make the "disrespecting the flag" argument, well, he tossed theirs on the sidewalk, which is just as disrespectful, and makes him as bad as them.

I'll also add that it probably wasn't a political statement; it was a mexican restaurant...

Most likely he was proud of his Mexican heritage and loves America and all it's freedom allows him to do. He Probably didn't know he was disrepecting anything, nor was it illegal until the camera crew showed up. then some hothead comes and disrespects him and his stuff.

If he didn't love America, he probably wouldn't have even flown the flag.

I'm glad not everyone is an Idiot on here like Killer....Great counter points guys.

you are being an idiot.
All the points, counterpoints and theories are all based on speculation which doesn't mean anything. I am glad the flag was taken down but who knows the back story that lead up the the grizzly vet taking matters into his own hands.
