Give this guy a medal.

Wrong. They had every right to fly the Mexican flag. First Amendment rights. He had no right to take an American flag (or anything else) that belonged to them. That's theft. If they're breaking the law, that's for the police to deal with, not just any lunatic with a big knife.

Exactly my point.

I'm not supporting the people who broke the law and disrespected the American flag, but what he did (stole their American flag and threw their Mexican flag on the ground) was just as illegal and disrespectful. How is it only OK for him to break laws?

see, that's exactly the problem with this country today, people are so afraid to say what they feel or act on what they think needs to be done because they might offend someone or might be involved in some frivolous lawsute that they don't do or say anything that might potentionally hurt someone's feelings.

well I say too effing bad.. do I support the lunatic with a big knife stealing the american flag from people that were disrespecting it to the point where I believe they they didn't deserve to hold something that I treasure with all my heart and soul? YES, YES I DO.

Uh no. Waiting an hour for the police to arrive would not have caused any damage or hurt anyone. There is a big difference between property and a life.
no, it wouldn't have, however there is absolutely no possible way that owner wasen't aware of what he was doing. Just the idea of doing what he did is saying that he values a country more than the one he's currently living in, and if that's the case well then the border is just a few miles away. my 80 year old grandmother can understand that concept.

I really don't understand the debate on this. The Vet (old man, sic) had every right to take down the mexican flag. WTF is going on in our country? Political correctness is well on it's way to ruining it. Makes me want to (puke)
what's going on in our counrty is that people are allowed to express themselves. Flying the flag as-is was illegal, but because of political correctness, I wanted to know why he was doing it and hopefully correct the situation so we can better teach future imigrants. I'd be willing to bet my next paycheck that the owner of the establishment didn't comprehend the law (if he even knew it). It's up to us as US citizens to help them understand it, not just tell them what the law is.

I was with you until it was our responsibility. Honestly, I'm not trying to take the blame off of the restaurant owner. He should have known better. Fact is, he didn't (or was intentionally breaking the law). It is not my place or anyone else's to enforce the law. Leave that to the cops. If that dude came on my property to take my flag (because I didn't deserve it?), I would shoot him.

well... sometimes you just need to get over this new age bull s*** and give a good old ass kicking, how it was in the old days. And thats what he did, and it was ******* justice. it seems that the world is just turning into a pre madona soap opera, and the vet told them how it was going to be and no other way, he was right they were wrong. end of fuckign story.

Oh Ok, thanks for laying down the law. (screwy)

Cracks me up that the people that love this country the most and are most worried about the letter of the law, do not respect the legal system. (usa)

Having been born in this country and also an Army vet, I must say that I totally disagree with what that guy did. That's something an irrational and out of control person would do. If I would have seen some dumb young punk do the same thing, I would just say, "oh, he's a young, immature idiot". But since it's an adult, I think, "he's a drunk, trailer living redneck asshole". If we are a nation of laws, then we need to let the courts do the "ass whipping". When people start taking things into their own hands, that's when the system breaks down. I see people doing illegal things all the time on the highway....from bikers driving in between cars to people speeding. I am going to open my door because a biker lane splits?? Hell the @#CK no. Am I going to get in the left lane to slow down speeders??? No because I am not an asshole. I say that guy is an asshole and would joke about doing some of the things I just mentioned. Immature....(boom03)

You're right, most immigrants are so thirsty to learn about American culture, They made it so clear to us all when thousands of them marched in the streets waving mexican flags chanting "si se puede!"

This is a higly emotional topic for a lot of people. Especially in this case, not all the facts are known. Heck the US govt doesn't even respect the legal system. If they didn't they would do more to curb illegal immigration.

It breaks my heart as an immigrant to say that. But its the truth. Cheap labor trumps the rule of law.

I think your lack of acceptance on this board (from what I've seen) is you really haven't contributed much intelligence to any subjects, just hasty ill thought out opinions. And I've seen your "America sucks sometimes not all of the time" a couple of times too. Well anyplace sucks sometimes and not all of the time, that's called life; that holds true for pretty much everywhere you go anything you do. Maybe put some more thought behind your posts before you go off and cry to the Administrator. How does that help anything? Just makes people dislike you more. I hate seeing you attacked all the time but I can see people's reasoning for it. :\

My 0.02.
well said.

Americans don't even follow the rules of flag usage. A lot of it is anal. For example, the flag has to come down at sundown unless it's illuminated by a light. The flag is LOWERED to half mast not RAISED to half mast, which means it has to be raised to full staff then lowered to half. Etc. But I agree the Mexican flag above the U.S. flag is pretty obvious. Either the guy acted rationally or not isn't really the issue, we love to see irrational s*** on T.V. anyway.
